Introduccion: Día a día se generan nuevas necesidades, por lo que existe un creciente aumento en la producción de máquinas y materiales que suplan los requerimientos tanto de las personas como de la industria. El tratamiento térmico de los materiales que se utilizan en la construcción de estas máquinas es un factor importante en el funcionamiento y mejoramiento de las mismas. El temple de aceros ha sido un proceso que siempre se ha llevado a cabo, por lo que se ha buscado la forma de mejorarlo y obtener las características óptimas del material a partir de los medios y sistemas de enfriamiento El tiempo de vida útil y confiabilidad de los productos manufacturados están determinados por su dureza, tenacidad, elasticidad, resistencia a la corrosión, por lo cual el material debe ser obtenido de tal forma que se pueda obtener un alto rendimiento. El laboratorio de Metalografía de la Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira carece de un sistema de enfriamiento para temple de aceros, en donde se pueda tener control tanto de la temperatura a través de termistores, como de la agitación de los medios, con mezcladores de velocidad variable, que garantizan el flujo de calor desde las probetas. Esto constituye también una gran debilidad de la Universidad frente a otras Universidades en el área de Materiales, específicamente en el campo de los tratamientos térmicos que es ahora una importante línea de estudio de la ingeniería. En el presente trabajo se diseñó un sistema de enfriamiento para temple de aceros. Se determinó la confiabilidad del sistema a partir de simulaciones del comportamiento del mismo mediante el software COSMOS FloWorks, donde se consideró que los resultados obtenidos están dentro de los límites permisibles de aceptación para su funcionamiento. Además este trabajo constituye un gran paso para ensayos de Temple de aceros en el laboratorio de Materiales de la Facultad de Ingeniería Mecánica.
On October 14-19, 1990, the 6th International Conference on the Conservation of Earthen Architecture was held in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sponsored by the GCI, the Museum of New Mexico State Monuments, ICCROM, CRATerre-EAG, and the National Park Service, under the aegis of US/ICOMOS, the event was organized to promote the exchange of ideas, techniques, and research findings on the conservation of earthen architecture. Presentations at the conference covered a diversity of subjects, including the historic traditions of earthen architecture, conservation and restoration, site preservation, studies in consolidation and seismic mitigation, and examinations of moisture problems, clay chemistry, and microstructures. In discussions that focused on the future, the application of modern technologies and materials to site conservation was urged, as was using scientific knowledge of existing structures in the creation of new, low-cost, earthen architecture housing.
