Excerpt from Directory of Activities of the Bureau of Plant Industry: Issued May 1936 The Division of Seed Investigations is con cerned with seed testing and the enforcement of the Federal Seed Act. An advisory service is maintained for the identification and the deter mination of the mechanical purity and germina tion of seeds. Research is conducted to extend the number of identifications which it is possible to make from an examination of seeds, and to discover methods of ascertaining accurate per centages of germination of those seeds presenting difficulties in testing. The acceptability of the imported seed subject to the Federal Seed Act is determined, records are kept of forage-plant seeds imported into the country, and data on the interstate Shipment of fraudulently misbranded seed is considered for the purpose of determining the most appropriate and effective means of im proving the quality of seed in commerce.
