The introduction of digital technologies in agricultural production is one of the most important elements of strategic development in the agricultural sector and rural areas in Ukraine. In agriculture, these new technologies can modernize the industry, promoting innovation in agribusiness and creating new opportunities for rural development. The introduction of digital technologies in agriculture ensures the accuracy of measurements, speed data collection and processing. Digitization in rural areas is an inevitable process that brings a number of economic, social and environmental benefits. The immediate aim of this paper is to assess the state of implementation of digital technologies in agriculture and to examine opportunities for rural development in Ukraine. Research methods: monographic, descriptive, analysis, synthesis, induction. The results indicate that only large agricultural enterprises in Ukraine are able to implement and use digital technologies. Thus, it is proposed to create an integrated digital portal for agricultural needs, combining solutions that optimize activities of agricultural enterprises: land bank management, production, crop monitoring, warehouse, procurement and supply, equipment and repairs, logistics, inventory and finished products. The article identifies technological and human barriers to introduction of digital technologies in rural areas of Ukraine. In addition it proposes strategies for development of digital literacy and skills among rural residents in Ukraine. The results of the research can have a significant impact on the development of agriculture in Ukraine, promoting digital technologies among other agricultural enterprises and ensuring the development in rural areas, attracting additional agricultural market participants and infrastructure that provide relevant information and digital services to rural residents.
Digital agriculture has the potential to contribute to a more economically, environmentally and socially sustainable agriculture and meet the agricultural goals of a country or a region more effectively, and both ICTs and agriculture are important enablers in achieving SDGs. Most stakeholders have long recognized the need for national e-agricultural strategies. Nevertheless, most of the countries have not yet implemented a national strategy for the agricultural sector's use of ICTs. ITU Offices for Europe and CIS regions in collaboration with FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia developed this report on state of Digital Agriculture and Strategies developed in 18 countries. The emerging role of ICTs in Europe and CIS region is clearly observed and experienced as an engine for agricultural development, especially in view of the growing demand for reliable information and its quick access at all levels of the industry. The state of the digital agriculture ecosystem differs from country to country and is also fragmented by the regions, within the individual countries. There is an overwhelming wave of innovation in this area where a digital agriculture strategy can be helpful in finding the right path.
This report aims to identify the different scenarios where the process of digital transformation is taking place in agriculture. This identifies those aspects of basic conditions, such as those of infrastructure and networks, affordability, education and institutional support. In addition, enablers are identified, which are the factors that allow adopting and integrating changes in the production and decision-making processes. Finally identify through cases, existing literature and reports how substantive changes are taking place in the adoption of digital technologies in agriculture.

This book shares research and practice on current trends in digital technology for agricultural and rural development in the Global South. In the European Union works have been launched about perspective directions of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and national priorities within the EU budget after 2020. One of the expected problems is the reduction in the amount of funding, particularly in the form of subsidies. For Ukraine this issue has been relevant before. At the same time, the level of implementation of innovations in the agricultural sector remains low. The paper examines the current state of implementation of the most important innovation projects in agribusiness in Ukraine and their financing sources. Results of cluster analysis of the implementation of investment and innovative projects in Ukrainian regions allowed to identify four clusters, each of which is represented by relatively homogeneous parameters of the potential of innovative development of agribusiness 4.0. Given the fact that contemporary agribusiness both in Ukraine and in Europe remains weakly digitized, we propose one of the strategic priorities of agrarian policy to recognize the promotion of the implementation of digital agricultural projects (projects connected with agribusiness 4.0). The investments in digital agricultural projects are an important tool for improving competitiveness and economic efficiency of Ukrainian enterprises and development of agriculture 4.0 in Europe.

Comprising 30 percent of agricultural output and with an area of 15 million hectares, the grain sector is a pillar of Ukraine’s agriculture. In 2020 Ukraine exported USD 9.4 billion worth of cereals, the second largest exporter after the United States of America, making Ukraine a major contributor to global food security. Using extensive interviews, the report assesses the extent to which Ukrainian farmers have adopted digital technologies, the many barriers to them doing so and the considerable opportunities these technologies present, while offering sharp insights into their potential contribution and how best to sustain them. The report also considers the level of interest larger farmers have in adopting precision agriculture technologies, and their benefits in terms of improved productivity, lower costs and reduced greenhouse gas emissions, despite the relatively high initial investment required. It concludes with a list of recommended actions, calling on four groups to embrace digital technologies and thus develop and transform Ukraine’s grain sector: the private sector, financial institutions, the public sector and international organizations.
