En este libro se recogen las investigaciones realizadas por la autora durante su estancia en la Universidad de Laval (Quebec) sobre didáctica patrimonial, a las que se suma su amplia experiencia tanto práctica como teórica en el ámbito museístico. La primera parte, «Epistemología», se nutre de una breve pero significativa genealogía filosófica, comunicativa y psicopedagógica, unos conocimientos que son el «cemento» común a todos los patrimonios, tienen que ver con la comunicación, con el aprender en los espacios de patrimonio, y se integran en las maneras de enseñar. En la segunda parte se tratan la metodología y la evaluación, se presenta un esquema de investigación que trata de explicitar la idea de diálogo entre museo y escuela y se muestra una metodología de investigación en didáctica del patrimonio desde la perspectiva de las ciencias de la educación. La tercera parte está dedicada a un estudio de casos, con informaciones sobre programas en museos. En la cuarta parte del libro se presentan las conclusiones, y se muestra cómo en el museo es posible la complicidad entre el discurso expositivo y la educación, que crea nuevas dimensiones para la difusión y la comprensión del conocimiento.
