Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries in India, contributing enormously to the Indian economy. Indian civilization and culture have followed the tradition of Atithi Devo Bhava (treating Guest as God) from time immemorial. Tourism in India is fairly rich and diverse in terms of its attractions and resources nevertheless the body of knowledge of tourism as a discipline is relatively unexplored in terms of scholarly research. The tourism industry in India has not been able to perform to its most impeccable potential due to several obstructions. Lack of efficient marketing and positioning of its tourism resources in the global market is one of the prominent causes of this. The Indian tourism industry cannot achieve the desired growth and impetus unless it is backed by intense promotional and marketing strategies abreast of the global business arena. In this volume, an effort has been made to uncover a deeper understanding of marketing perspectives of tourism in India using an interdisciplinary approach. The chapters in this book reflect the prevailing scenario in the hospitality and tourism business in India as posited by renowned global experts on this subject. The book is an essential resource to students, researchers, and scholars interested in examining the existing marketing strategies as well as exploring the suggested strategies that can be adopted to promote tourism in India. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Anatolia.
Indian Tourism brings together leading experts from all over the world to assess the challenges and opportunities of the tourism sector in India and its correlation to the country’s economic performance and prospects.

Academics, students, the media and the public have been increasingly drawn to China and India in recent years. Both countries were considered sleeping giants and are now turning into the motors of global economic growth. China and India are both ancient civilizations with a rich history and were among the largest economic powers until European colonization in the 19th century. After Indian independence in 1947 and the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949 both countries shared the view that economic development should be achieved through a self-sustaining economy led and controlled by the government. In the following decades the share of Chinese and Indian global trade decreased significantly. Economic reform in China and India in 1978 and 1991 respectively resulted in an increasing integration into global markets and triggered large economic growth. It is very important to note that although China and India are both rising at the same point of time, they are rising in a different pace. China outperforms India in almost every indicator of economic development. It is the key aim of this study to point out this asymmetry between China and India. Another question is, if India is capable of catching up with China in the future and its effects to Sino-Indian relations.
From the internationally bestselling author of The Windfall. . . . What could go wrong at a lavish Indian wedding with your best friend and your entire family? “A witty and romantic novel perfect for all readers.”—Terry McMillan NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY MARIE CLAIRE AND NEW YORK POST When Tina Das finds herself at a crossroads both professionally and personally, she wonders if a weeklong trip to Delhi for her cousin’s lavish wedding might be just the right kind of escape. Maybe a little time away from New York will help get her mind straight about her stalled career, her recent breakup, and her nagging suspicion that she’ll never feel as at home in America as she does in India. Tina hopes this destination wedding, taking place at Delhi’s poshest country club, Colebrookes, will be the perfect way to reflect and unwind. But with the entire Das family in attendance, a relaxing vacation is decidedly not in the cards. Her amicably divorced parents are each using the occasion to explore new love interests—for her mother, a white American boyfriend, for her father, an Indian widow arranged by an online matchmaker—and Tina’s squarely in the middle. A former fling is unexpectedly on the guest list, a work opportunity is blurring the lines of propriety on several fronts, and her best friend Marianne’s terrible penchant for international playboys is poised to cause all sorts of chaos back home. The accommodations are swanky, the alcohol is top-shelf, but this family wedding may be more drama than Tina can bear and could finally force her to make the choices she’s spent much of her life avoiding. Infused with warmth and charm, Destination Wedding grapples with the nuances of family, careers, belonging, and how we find the people who make a place feel like home.
