Thomas Mackay (1810-1880) of Ireland and his wife, Ann Rodgers, immigrated to the United States in 1842 after their baptism in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, settling in Nauvoo, Illinois. After the expulsion of the Mormons from Illinois in 1846, Thomas and Ann were among the first settlers in the Great Salt Lake Valley in 1847. Thomas married two other wives, Charlotte James and Sarah Franks. By 1963, there were over 2000 living descendants of Thomas Mackay in Utah and elsewhere.

Thomas Young (1836-1916), son of George and Ann Wiltshire Young, was born at Uppder Caldecote, Bedfordshire, England. He joined the L.D.S. Church and then immigrated to Utah in 1856. Descendants lived in Utah, Idaho, California, and elsewhere.
