Gideon Lyman (1758-1824) was born in Northfield, Massachusetts, the son of Gideon Lyman and Eunice Clark. He married Dolly Spencer (1764/65- 1844), the daughter of Jeremiah Spencer and Elizabeth Shailor. They lived in Weathersfield, Vermont, where their eleven children were born. The family moved to Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, in 1803.
