This second volume in the series has abstracts of all of the grants from 1742 to 1775, a period that saw the formation and settlement of Frederick, Fairfax, Culpeper, Loudoun, Fauquier, and Dunmore (changed in 1778 to Shenandoah) counties in Virginia, and Hampshire and Berkeley counties now in West Virginia. Altogether, in more than 4,000 abstracts, about 7,500 early Virginia residents are cited, all of them listed in the index.
John Clinton Bradley was born 8 June 1859 in Lebanon, Iowa. His parents were Israel S. Bradley and Mary E. Lymenstull. He married Ida May McLain, daughter of John Jacob McLain and Emily Lowe, in 1882. They had seven children and lived in Marion County, Kansas. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and elsewhere.
Thomas Machen was born around 1675, probably in Virginia. Thomas lived in Middlesex by 1699. The name of Thomas' first wife is unknown, but her children were John and Anne. In 1711 Thomas married Mrs. Mary Chelton. Their children were Judith, Thomas and Henry.
