Can light and darkness exist together? Darrian is sure the answer is no. What he isnaEUR(tm)t sure of is why. The simple answer is that they are both absolutes, and one must ultimately overtake and destroy the other. But according to his friend Spence, thereaEUR(tm)s more to it than that, something deeper and more complicated. Spence has spent years trying to pull Darrian out of the darkness and into the Light, while forces that can be heard, but not seen, wrestle to keep him where he is. Darrian struggles with the conflict, but finds it easier to remain in the shadows. There, shielded from society, he wrestles with the question: Why is there safety and comfort in the darkness, but anxiety and confusion in the light? On the surface, it seems easier to just let go, to not fight it, but somewhere inside, in a place he tries unsuccessfully to explore, there is a deep-seated longing to at least understand the light. The unrest creates a battle within as he seeks to reconcile what his eyes can see with what his heart can feel. Unfortunately, the answer Darrian is searching for lies in a place beyond his physical vision. There is a darkness that blinds him to the real battle, the one he will eventually have to fight. The one that will truly open his eyes. The one that will help him to finally see that darkness and light have little to do with sight and everything to do with insight. aEURoeThe lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.aEUR (Luke 11:34)
