Dark Beauty focuses on the minute detail in Harry Clarke’s stained-glass windows, particularly in the borders and lower panels of his work. Clarke’s brilliance as a graphic artist is clearly visible in his book illustrations, which are imbued with precise attention to intricate designs, and he applied the same lavish focus to every facet of his stained glass. The title ‘Dark Beauty’ refers to the duality of Clarke’s work that sees delicate angels juxtaposed with macabre, grotesque figures, and represents the partially hidden details that dwell in the background of his windows – motifs, accessories, flora, fauna and diminutive characters – which may be missed in light of the dominance of the central subjects. The authors spent many years photographing Clarke’s windows in Ireland, England, America and Australia, and the resulting 60,000 photos have been carefully whittled down to 500 glorious images. Dark Beauty will provide lovers of Clarke’s stained glass with the opportunity to view previously obscured or unnoticed details in all their unique beauty and inspire their own travels to view Clarke’s work.

After a weekend retreat with her college honors club–including her crush, Ethan–Dana is convinced nothing is worse than living without a skinny body and flawless features. In fact, she might as well never show her face in society again for being overweight, along with the many other imperfections she bears. But when Dana plummets into a ravine on the drive home, she awakens in a strange basement, uninjured and–to her great pleasure–perfectly beautiful. The mysterious young man who saved her is attentive and glad to make her wish come true, but Dana soon learns she must also fulfill his. As the days pass and reality quickly shifts to a nightmare, Dana begins to see through her exceptional beauty, and must find a way to escape her captor's grip before it is too late. DARK BEAUTY features over one hundred photographs by Jack Parsons of New Mexico, culled from his favourite scenes shot over the last twenty-five years. From images of small towns and lonely plains, mountains, rivers, fiestas, and murals to old adobe houses, crumbling walls and dirt roads in Santa Fe, Taos, and elsewhere, it presents a very personal, elegiac vision of the state where he has made his home since the 1970s. These photographs reveal a deep understanding and reverence for a place whose complex, rich history, unique multiculturalism, and unparalleled beauty continue to captivate residents and tourists alike. AUTHOR: Although an experienced cinematographer and director, Jack Parsons is most famous for his elegant book photography that captures the visual heritage of the American Southwest. In recognition of his contributions, he was honoured in 2006 with the New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence and Achievement in the Arts. ILLUSTRATIONS: 100 colour photographs

My family's fortune has finally turned around. We went from living in a no-tell motel outside of Las Vegas to a high-rise in the upper east side in New York City. Our benefactor is generous--new school, new clothes, new friends. But it doesn't take long for me to realize that something darker lurks beneath the glitz and glamour. DARK BEAUTY is a prequel to the upcoming duet FALLEN RAVEN. In this dark bully romance, we dive into the glitz and glamour of Midtown High, a king-maker school founded by the Society. Author's note: This prequel ends in a cliffhanger. If you like Enzo and Aurora star-crossed lovers story, you can continue to read in the Fallen Raven Duet, coming in June 2022. Welcome to Midtown High!
I wanted her. She was just two floors away from me here in my castle. And some piece of her—naïve and inexperienced—wanted me. The man who was doomed to die at her hand. I could mostly ignore that fact, now that I was used to her presence, and my intermittent lust. But I wondered if not telling her about it was a bigger betrayal than not telling her about my arrangement with her father. If she did manage her Ascension—and when she found out what that meant—then she would know the truth. That there hadn’t been a moment, ever since we met, that I didn’t see my death inside her eyes. I could only hope that the shame of her learning that would be absolved by a second realization: that I had loved her anyway. Break Her: A Dark Beauty and the Beast Fantasy Romance novel is the second book in the Transformation Trilogy, about Rhaim the All-Beast, a cruel beast mage doomed to die at the hands of the woman he must protect at all costs, and Lisane, the sheltered Princess of Tears, who has been given into his care and who needs him to teach her magic so she can be free—no matter how much it might hurt her.
The final book in the Transformation Trilogy, an intense fantasy romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast: Rhaim produced a key from somewhere upon his person. “The collar has a lock.” He tossed it out onto the table. “If I cannot solve the Deathless, I will become your loyal servant, until the end of my time.” I was suddenly in danger of fainting. Rhaim had just as much as admitted he didn’t have an answer yet, and the price he would pay for failure was too great for me to bear. I knew what it was like to be trapped in a cage. I would never, ever, send anybody else—much less the man I loved—into one. “Father, you cannot agree to his terms,” I told him. I rose up on my tiptoes, leaning over Helkin’s shoulder to shout, “I still hate you, beast!” willing Rhaim to change his mind. Rhaim gave me a wicked smile, and spoke in the growl that bypassed my ears and went straight to my core. “As well you should, princess. And know, too, that if I am given you, I will never show you kindness again . . . and the things I will do to you will make the unicorns weep.” Bend Her: A Dark Beauty and the Beast Fantasy Romance is the story of Rhaim the All-Beast, a cruel beast mage doomed to die at the hands of the woman he must protect at all costs, and Lisane, the sheltered Princess of Tears, who has been given into his care and who needs him to teach her magic so she can be free—no matter how much it might hurt her.
Western culture has long been fascinated by black women, but a history of enslavement and colonial conquest has variously labeled black women's bodies as "exotic" and "grotesque." In this remarkable cultural history of black female beauty, Janell Hobson explores the enduring figure of the "Hottentot Venus." In 1810, Saartjie Baartman was taken from South Africa to Europe, where she was put on display at circuses, salons, and museums and universities as the "Hottentot Venus." The subsequent legacy of representations of black women's sexuality-from Josephine Baker to Serena Williams to hip-hop and dancehall videos-continues to refer back to this persistent icon. This book analyzes the history of critical and artistic responses to this iconography by black women in contemporary photography, film, literature, music, and dance.
She was the face that launched a thousand ships, the fierce beauty at the heart of Olympus...and she was never ours to claim. *A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus that's as sinful as it is sweet.* In Olympus, you either have the power to rule...or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city's inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning. Neither expect infamous beauty Helen Kasios to be part of the prize...or for the complicated fire that burns the moment she looks their way. Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give to away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition as a middle finger to the meddling Thirteen rulers, effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Unfortunately, there are those who would rather see her dead than lead the city. The only people she can trust are the ones she can't keep her hands off—Achilles and Patroclus.
