Little Joe Nighttraveler is a new Christian who has a broken leg. Danny is flying Little Joe and his brother, Howard, to the hospital in Finland House. On the way, they encounter a bad snowstorm which causes them to crash. In the crash, Danny is seriously injured, leaving Howard, who is not a Christian, as the only able-bodied person to take care of things.
Summer Bible camp opens Fritz McCloud’s eyes to the stark reality that he is not living for Christ in any significant way, and he determines that there is no better time to change than now. Danny and Kay, along with Jim, help Hal learn to surrender his emotions to Christ and become a witness to his dad.

Kay and Danny are faithfully serving God as missionaries in Guatemala. While Danny is out clearing ground for an airplane landing strip, Kay is asked to make an urgent medical visit upriver in the jungle. On the way back to the mission station, Kay shows signs of heatstroke, and Danny and Kay must return to Minnesota for Kay's recovery. While in Minnesota, Kay receives bad news from the doctor that doesn’t make sense. Even though she feels fine, she's told that she shouldn’t return to Guatemala. Why would God allow this to happen when they are so needed in Guatemala?
When fire destroys his school in a remote Minnesota village, Danny must attend a strange school in a town many miles from his family. In spite of homesickness, Danny refuses to stay lonely. The basketball court provides the ideal place for making new friends. When poor grades threaten the team, Danny’s new friend, Kevin, the computer whiz, finds himself uniquely qualified to help. Will he decide to break the law so that he will no longer be an outsider? Only Kevin can make this decision, and only Danny can make the truth known.
