Sandy had a crush on Doug, DeeDee's brother. Sandy was rich, spoiled, not a Christian, but liked Doug, and partly because of that, made friends with DeeDee in order to get to know her brother Doug. Dee-Dee started envying Sandy, because of everything she had, even though Sandy wasn't happy. Then, Sandy introduces DeeDee to a boy, Wally Crowder, who also is popular, but not a Christian. Both Sandy and Doug, through this all, drift away from God. Eventually, DeeDee gets in trouble, and realizes that her friendship with Sandy is influencing her the wrong way, and she determines to honor God.
In addition to a pet deer, Del now also has a pet crow named Blackie, and he’s determined to teach Blackie to talk. But his brother Doug thinks he’s crazy for spending so much time with animals, and he's a little jealous too. And now, DeeDee is being defiant about where she’s going and what she’s doing. Things are definitely spiraling out of control for the triplets. The three of them are charting their own course – will their love and care for one another be rekindled before it’s too late?
The youth group at Danny and Kay Orlis’s church is off on an adventure. They are driving cross-country on a church bus to a mission station in one of the most beautiful spots in Alaska. The teens want to spend their summer helping missionaries, but both the trials and the triumphs of the summer teach the kids that being a missionary is a lot different than they thought.
At first, Doug is the star football player and encourages his brother Del to join the team, albeit for less-than-ideal reasons. But when his brother begins to outperform him and everyone starts raving about Del, Doug is overcome with feelings of resentment and jealousy. Things come to a head when Doug intentionally fails to block for Del in their final game of the season, and the coach intervenes. Can the brothers reconcile their differences quickly enough to emerge as true champions?
Sandy Cole’s home life is falling apart. Her dad’s drinking and her mom’s anger scare and confuse her, and her friends, the Orlis family, seem to be the only ones she can talk to and trust. When her dad leaves and her parents divorce, it all becomes too much for Sandy and she runs away, not realizing that the One who can fix everything is already right there.
Sandy Cole’s new friend Brenda isn’t exactly a good influence, and soon they are planning a trip to the city – despite her dad saying “no.” With a bit of conniving, Sandy persuades her mother to say “yes,” going against her dad’s wishes. Kent, who was physically blinded after his own foolhardy actions, intervenes; but will wisdom prevail? He persuades one, but not the other. Brenda ends up going alone, meets a boy in Minneapolis, and what was supposed to be a fun-filled weekend in the city ends regretfully.
The Orlis family has moved to Rock Point, Colorado. DeeDee, Doug, and Del are the new kids in school and are facing all the difficulties of making new friends and fitting in. DeeDee is miserably focused on the fact she only has one friend now. Then she is asked to befriend a girl named Letitia, who seemingly doesn’t want any friends. Doug is trying to succeed on the basketball team. At the Angle he would have been first string, but not at Rock Point. Del has developed an “I don’t care attitude.” His grades slip. Can they make it at Rock Point? Something has to change.
