Excerpt from Dairy Herd Improvement Letter, Vol. 49: May-June, 1973 On January 1, 1973, the program included herds with cows, which is percent of the Nation's dairy cow population. This is the first time since 1956, when owner-sampler testing was included, that the-percentage of testing has risen 2 percent in a year. The cows were in associations with supervisors. Official dhi included herds and cows for an average of cows per herd. Dhir included herds and cows, also averaging cows per herd. Owner-sampler included herds and cows for an average of cows per herd. Similar figures for wadam were 590 herds, cows, and cows per herd.
