The materials used are iron or steel, Copper, and aluminum; Of these three, the two latter are the most important, iron or steel being used to a considerable extent only in the construction Of telephone and telegraph lines, and even here they are rapidly giving way to copper. Steel may be used in some special cases, such as extremely long spans in overhead construction or for the working conductors for railway installations using a third rail.
