Presents an examination of field relationships along the northern margin of Baker Lake Basin, Nunavut, with the goal of establishing the stratigraphy of the Dubawnt Supergroup in relation to paleogeography, depositional setting, and provenance. Includes information on the regional geology, local geology (Christopher Island Formation sedimentary & volcanic rocks, the newly named Amarook Formation, and the overlying Pitz and Thelon formations), and discusses faulting during the development of the Baker Lake Basin.

This report is part of an ongoing study to characterize both sequence stratigraphy and chronostratigraphy of the Baker Lake Basin, Nunavut. The investigators examined well-exposed segments of the basin in detail, emphasizing sequence stratigraphic analysis to identify genetic packages of strata related to tectonically controlled basin-filling rhythms. Three sections exposed at the western edge of Thirty Mile Lake have been measured and correlated, yielding data on five depositional sequences. After an introduction on the geologic setting of the study area, the report provides facies assemblage descriptions and interpretations of the five depositional sequences of the lower Baker Lake Group. Finally, the accommodation (or space made available for a sedimentary system to fill) cycle in the basin is discussed and conclusions are drawn regarding the subsidence mechanism in the basin.
This report summarizes observations & structural data collected in the area of the Walker Lake shear zone in the Committee Bay supracrustal belt, central Nunavut. It first reviews the general geology of the metasedimentary & volcanic rocks of the Prince Albert group and the intrusive rocks (tonalite, granite) which were observed in the shear zone. It then describes the three generations of ductile structures that were identified in proximity to the shear zone, and offers some preliminary interpretations regarding the relationship of the shear zone to regional deformation.
Komatiite units dominate Archean volcanic successions in the Laughland Lake and Walker Lake map areas of the Committee Bay region, central Nunavut. This study describes results of regional & local mapping of some well-preserved komatiite sequences in those areas, particularly in the Laughland Lake area where the majority of the better-preserved komatiite units are found. Structural & stratigraphic relationships are also discussed.
The basal surface of the Bravo Lake Formation, central Baffin Island, represents a rapid, conformable transition from iron-enriched marine deposition to near-basin margin shallow marine volcanism. This report presents results of detailed structural, stratigraphic, & three-dimensional mapping of this basal surface in an area south-west of Nadluardjuk Lake. It includes information on the general geology of the area, stratigraphy, characteristics of exposed rocks, and structural geology.
