This thesis uses standard welfare economic analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the Australian domestic content regulation of television programs. Broadly, the thesis outlines the economics of television programming, develops the theoretical framework of the examiniation of regulatory instruments and their justification, and uses cost-benefit analysis methods to assess the performance of the regulatory instruments.
