Excerpt from Criticisms on Art: By William Hazlitt, With Catalogues of the Principal Picture Galleries of England, 2d Series, Ed, by His Son This volume would have appeared, as announced, a year ago, had it not been that the sudden and untimely death of Mr Templeman interposed difficulties which his widow has only within the last few weeks been able to obviate; but I trust that the series, the completion of which I have so much at heart, will now proceed at certain and but short intervals. The present volume contains the remainder of such of my Father's writings on Art as were either scattered about in various periodicals, inedited and well nigh unknown, or could, without undue violence, be transferred from the places which they occupied in the old editions of his works to this more convenient and congruous position.
