Excerpt from Corn Diseases in Illinois: Their Extent, Nature, and Control The information presented here concerns dent corn principally, tho in general the same diseases occur on all the different kinds of maize, or Indian corn (zea mays), namely, sweet, pop, flint, and flour corn, sweet corn usually being the most susceptible. Effort has been made to present the discussions in simple lan guage. Nevertheless, for the sake of accuracy and brevity, certain technical terms have to be used. The meanings of such words are explained in the glossary at the end of the publication. Each topic has been organized as a more or less independent unit. While this arrangement has necessitated some slight repetition between sections, the advantage to the reader is obvious. Facts concerning the be havior of corn diseases on the germinator are concentrated in the last part of the bulletin. The authors have drawn freely upon material published by other investigators as well as upon their own experiences and observa tions. Literature references are given for some of the most impor tant of these contributions, especially to the relatively recent ones.
