It would seem that modern humanity has unthroned the human spirit, undercutting the very foundation of the validity of truth, moral values and principles. There appears to be no attempt to discern what is beautiful and true: it is functional and pragmatic usefulness that seem to dominate human evaluations and transactions with other humans and, indeed, animals. Humanity is becoming detached from the `higher' aesthetic, moral and intellectual works of the human spirit and thus the life of the spirit is often situated on the other side of a gulf, opposed to science with its rationality. Culture is in danger of becoming reduced to science. In other words, the great metaphysical questions - those of telos, of sense - often are answered in terms of scientific conceptions. But these are at least incomplete, if not fragmentary, and in principle hypothetical, which still leaves the questions unanswered. But it is culture that is the manifestation of the human spirit, being the historical process of human self-interpretation-in-existence. All manifestations of the creative forge of the human being find a role in the fabric of culture, which involves progressively widening circles of the human community, demanding an integration and attunement with others in their changing conditions of life. This consideration of culture involves all areas of philosophical reflection: moral, aesthetic, metaphysical, epistemological, semiological, cognitive, and more.
Colombia ha vivido grandes crisis a través de los años; crisis que permiten, gracias al aprendizaje que ésta genera, el desarrollo humano y la esperanza espiritual para lograr una reflexión en la convivencia. El problema de pasar de una economía cafetera a una economía minera ha ocasionado, por ejemplo, que los recursos naturales sean hoy la base del mal llamado "desarrollo", "progreso" y "crecimiento". El texto, resultado del proceso de investigación de la tesis doctoral "El estado colombiano y el buen vivir, un proyecto político-educativo", muestra que el problema social de esta crisis civilizatoria es el camino para conscientizar las generaciones presentes, en la búsqueda de incrementar el índice de Felicidad y el Buen Vivir y, con ello, generar espacios que motiven una relación amigable entre el ser humano y la naturaleza. Este texto constituye su cuarto libro después de: "La vida y sus encrucijadas", "Rehenes del miedo" y "Colombia: política, encanto, amor y odio".
Los avances conseguidos en el Concilio Vaticano II parecen ser definitivamente aparcados, sobre todo, desde la llegada al papado del cardenal Ratzinger e iniciada por el Papa Juan Pablo II. La reciente elección de un nuevo pontífice, de nacionalidad argentina, el Papa Francisco, está por ver por dónde se inclinará. En el presente texto se aborda el tema de la relación de la Iglesia y el Carlismo en la España contemporánea. El Carlismo nunca se sintió favorecido por la Iglesia, institución que ha cruzado el Rubicón desde la época de Juan XXIII, en la que se afirmó el pluralismo político y se negó el apoyo al proyecto democristiano de Joaquín Ruíz Giménez. Todo ello ha hecho crecer lo que ya se creía enterrado: el anticlericalismo. Un ejemplo de la respuesta carlista fue la advertencia de Don Javier al cardenal Tarancón, presidente entonces de la Conferencia Episcopal Española. En el texto se relatan desde los enormes privilegios que goza la Iglesia actual hasta su enfrentamiento a todo planteamiento que significara un avance o renovación ideológica de la sociedad española. Posiblemente este trabajo escandalizará a algunos y, sin embargo, a otros les parecerá que nos hemos quedado cortos. El asunto tiene su lógica, ya que lo contrario sería creer que la actual sociedad española pasa de todo. Pero está demostrado que no es así.

This book explores the use of the Bible among Latino/a theologians today. Latino/a Theology emerged in the 1980s, alongside a broad variety of contextual theological movements and discourses following the Latino/a movement and the formation of Latino/a Studies in the 1960s and 1970s. While much work has been done on biblical interpretation in Latino/a biblical criticism, little can be found regarding interpretation in Latino/a theological reflection. To address this gap in the literature, the contributors, from various ecclesial affiliations and religious traditions, examine the status and role of the Bible in Latino/a Theology.
