This Lexicon, aimed at NGOs, lawyers, diplomats and students, follows the same method as the Lexicon of Human Rights - Les définitions des droits de l'homme, published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers in 2008. Definitions related to the environment are gathered by extracting them from relevant universal scope texts. This ordered grouping of definitions will enlighten the reader about the priorities of the international community regarding environmental law. Definitions are classified in alphabetical order, in separate English and French lists. In each language there is an alphabetical list of common terms with the equivalent second language term in square brackets. The list gives the exact detailed meaning followed by the source of each term. Following this list, a lexicon of the same terms is given under such general themes as "Mammals", "Gas", "Lead". Finally, a list of relevant documents which can be referenced for further information is included.
The dictionary contains approx. 6,000 terms related to containers and dangerous goods, medical terms in relation to accidents involving dangerous goods, chemicals most frequently involved in accidents, segregation terms and groups, reglementation of dangerous goods, conventions, codes and directives, organisations and acronyms. This dictionary will concentrate mainly on the technical vocabulary relating to containeri-sation and the transport of hazardous and noxious substances as it would appear that, that particular sector is rather poorly documented.
This looseleaf contains the text of conventions, protocols, etc., within the various fields of transport law: maritime law, inland navigation, air law, road transport, transport by railway and miscellaneous, in chronological order. The publication aims to save time and trouble to all who are concerned with the application, the interpretation, or the drafting of transport law and regulations. The texts are given in English as well as in French, if this is the authentic version or the official translation. They are accompanied by a systematic and chronological table of contents in English and French to facilitate easy and quick reference. Dates of signature, ratification and accession, and entry into force, as well as details of proviso applicable to some treaties and protocols are updated four times a year in 'Transport News', an extra service provided to the subscribers to Transport .
