Among the topics covered at the symposium were: slurry pipelines, pneumatic pipelines and capsule pipelines. There were also a number of papers presented on the subject of pipelines in general.
Proceedings of the Workshop Organized by the Pipeline Research Committee, Pipeline Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Leesburg, VA, March 28-29, 1996. The proceedings of this workshop identify and prioritize pipeline-related research needs to maintain the present pipeline infrastructure in an acceptable working condition and discuss ways to improve the condition of the thousands of miles of deteriorating water, sewer, oil, natural gas, and products pipelines on which the people of the United States and Canada depend.
Pipeline engineering has struggled to develop as a single field of study due to the wide range of industries and government organizations using different types of pipelines for all types of solids, liquids, and gases. This fragmentation has impeded professional development, job mobility, technology transfer, the diffusion of knowledge, and the movement of manpower. No single, authoritative course or book has existed to unite practitioners. In response, Pipeline Engineering covers the essential aspects and types of pipeline engineering in a single volume. This work is divided into two parts. Part I, Pipe Flows, delivers an integrated treatment of all variants of pipe flow including incompressible and compressible, Newtonian and non-Newtonian, slurry and multiphase flows, capsule flows, and pneumatic transport of solids. Part II, Engineering Considerations, summarizes the equipment and methods required for successful planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of pipelines. By addressing the fundamentals of pipeline engineering-concepts, theories, equations, and facts-this groundbreaking text identifies the cornerstones of the discipline, providing engineers with a springboard to success in the field. It is a must-read for all pipeline engineers.
This book introduces novel methods for leak and blockage detection in pipelines. The leak happens as a result of ageing pipelines or extreme pressure forced by operational error or valve rapid variation. Many factors influence blockage formation in pipes like wax deposition that leads to the formation and eventual growth of solid layers and deposition of suspended solid particles in the fluids. In this book, initially, different categories of leak detection are overviewed. Afterwards, the observability and controllability of pipeline systems are analysed. Control variables can be usually presented by pressure and flow rates at the start and end points of the pipe. Different cases are considered based on the selection of control variables to model the system. Several theorems are presented to test the observability and controllability of the system. In this book, the leakage flow in the pipelines is studied numerically to find the relationship between leakage flow and pressure difference. Removing leakage completely is almost impossible; hence, the development of a formal systematic leakage control policy is the most reliable approach to reducing leakage rates.
In Hydraulics of Pipelines, more than thirty state-of-the-art papers illustrate contemporary issues in the operation and design of water, sewer, gas, oil, and slurry pipelines and pipeline systems. In addition, pertinent case histories are presented on water and gas pipelines which outline solutions to particular problems.
This book explores the many challenges faced by the development and implementation of automated freight transport systems. It offers a unique overview of current applications, developments and future perspectives. The subject of automation is not covered extensively in the existing literature on freight transport and this book aims to fill the gap.
This text illuminates the contemporary issues and technologies related to the economic evaluation and justification of advanced technologies. Included are modern tools, as well as application-based cases that demonstrate the use of these tools. Students, researchers and decision makers will benefit from this useful resource.
Developments in the field of freight pipelines are highlighted in this volume. The papers provide up-to-date industrial coverage of the areas of pneumatic conveying, slurry transport, capsule flows and pumps used for these applications. The contributors who originate from Australia, Europe, Asia and North America, are all experts in these fields.
