En el marco de la colección Ciudad 2030, esta obra pretende reflexionar, desde diversos puntos de vista, en torno al papel de la ciudad inteligente (smart city) y de la ciudad sabia (wise city) en la generación de modelos de gobernanza democrática y colaborativa que avancen en el desarrollo humano sostenible de las ciudades, territorios y comunidades. Identificados los retos de este desarrollo, el uso de la ciencia y la tecnología resulta clave para resolverlos pero siempre teniendo en cuenta las ventajas e inconvenientes que suscitan. Por ello, son necesarios modelos que superen la idea de la innovación tecnológica como fin en sí misma, dejando paso a proyectos que incidan en la complicidad entre actores, sectores y agentes a partir de experiencias satisfactorias de colaboración, con base tecnológica o no.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the First International Conference on Smart Cities, Smart-CT 2016, held in Malaga, Spain, in June 2016. The 16 papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 28 submissions. They topics covered include studies and tools to improve road traffic, energy consumption, logistics, frameworks to provide new services and take decisions in a holistic way, driving assistance, electric vehicles, public transport, and surveys on smart city concepts.

Esto hace que deba replantearse el concepto de ciudad actual, partiendo de la necesidad de crear ciudades más inteligentes y más sostenibles que puedan dar solución a los retos sociales del futuro. Una ciudad inteligente, o smart city, es aquella que aglutina una serie de conceptos basados en la sostenibilidad centrados, fundamentalmente, en tres ámbitos básicos: medioambiental, económico y social, y que busca la mejora de la calidad de vida de sus habitantes. Como se verá a lo largo del libro, la definición de smart city es muy amplia y abarca muchos conceptos. El denominador común de todos ellos será el uso de las TIC como elemento básico que servirá para definir las arquitecturas y los procesos comunes para establecer sistemas inteligentes que acaben aportando valor al ciudadano y al entorno.

This volume provides the most current research on smart cities. Specifically, it focuses on the economic development and sustainability of smart cities and examines how to transform older industrial cities into sustainable smart cities.
