Christmas Markets in Copenhagen is first of all the market in the old Tivoli Gardens opened in 1843. It is the reverse situation - an amusement park with a Christmas Market and not the other way round. There are many other Christmas Markets and Christmas activities, but nothing beats Tivoli.
In Scandinavia the whole period of Christmas, from the first Sunday in Advent to New Year's Day, is marked by festivals and celebrated in traditional but beautifully contemporary style. Hygge, the Danish word for cosiness, is about being inside with candles, great comfort food and lots of cakes and sweets. The first week of December is baking week - enough has to be made to last the whole Christmas period. Jars of decorated cookies, gingerbread houses and clogs filled with little presents rub shoulders with simple wreaths, trees and tables decorated with white candles and fresh greenery - the perfect mix of ancient and modern. Brunches, cocktail and tea parties, lunches and dinners are celebrated with a mixture of traditional goodies and delicious modern recipes. Duck and pork rule on Christmas Eve, fish, ham and seasonal vegetables on Christmas Day. Sweets, biscuits, puddings and other treats abound - all washed down with gluwein and fruity cocktails. In this glorious book, illustrated with Lars Ranek's evocative photographs, Trine Hahnemann provides a cornucopia of 70 Christmas recipes - all featuring ingredients which are common to all northern climes - showing us how we, too, can decorate our homes and make delicious dishes to celebrate Christmas the Scandinavian way.
The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. The pre-Christmas fair on Nurembergs main market square can be traced back to the middle of the 16th century. Martin Luther promoted the Christ Child or Christkindl as a gift bringer and the date of giving gifts changed from December 6 to Christmas Eve. But now she has strong competition from Santa Claus as gift bringer. You men and women who were once children too, be children again, says the Christkind, as she greets her guests on Nurembergs Main Market Square to open the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt.

The main Montreux Christmas Market - Marché de Noël in French - is called the Lakeside Christmas Market. In this enchanting setting, extending for more than one kilometer along Lake Geneva's shoreline, you will find 170 stalls with crafts, tastings of local specialties, mulled wine and thousands of gift ideas. The size is as in a big German or Austrian city! Compared to other Christmas markets Montreux has more personal luxury items than traditional warm winter clothes.
