Excerpt: Celebration is the third greatest hits album by American singer-songwriter Madonna, and the final release under her contract with Warner Bros. Records, her record company since 1982. The release follows her two previous greatest hits albums, The Immaculate Collection (1990) and GHV2 (2001). The compilation was released in many different formats including a one-disc edition and a deluxe double disc. A compilation DVD, entitled Celebration: The Video Collection, was released to accompany the audio versions. The album includes three new tracks, the title track, "Revolver" (featuring Lil Wayne) and the bonus track on some editions "It's So Cool." Celebration was appreciated by contemporary critics who noted the vastness of Madonna's back-catalogue. The album debuted at the top of the charts in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Madonna became tied with Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most number-one albums in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it debuted in the top ten of the Billboard 200 at seven. In other nations, it debuted within the top ten. The title track was released as the first single of the album. It became Madonna's fortieth number-one song on Billboards dance chart. "Revolver" was released as the second single from the album in some territories, but did not achieve significant commercial success. On March 18, 2009, Madonna's publicist Liz Rosenberg announced the plans for the release of a greatest hits package by September. She also added that Madonna had plans to go to the studio and record new material for the album. The next day, Madonna's...

Ivor Novello (born David Ivor Davies) was a Welsh composer, singer and actor who became one of the most popular British entertainers of the early 20th century. He first became well known through the song Keep the Home Fires Burning which he composed during World War I. After the war, he began a film career, and also appeared on stage in the West End, in musical shows of his own devising, most notably The Dancing Years. Novello starred in two early Hitchcock films before heading to Hollywood and appeared in some successful films. He died in 1951, at a fairly young age of 58. In a career full of ‘blond ambition’, with controversy never far away, the music of Madonna has often been overshadowed, if not sorely overlooked. Across 14 albums, soundtracks and numerous greatest hits collections, the undisputed Queen of Pop has released over 80 singles spanning five decades. In this book every released track from her extensive back catalogue is examined in detail, with new insights, revelations and video information. Her role as ‘Queen of Clubs’ is also duly acknowledged, making careful note of the important remixes that have helped her rule the dance floor after her first release 40 years ago in 1982, ‘Everybody’, got her firmly into the groove. From 1984’s shiny and new ‘Like A Virgin’, to the critical acclaim of 1989’s expressive ‘Like A Prayer’ and 1998’s enlightening ‘Ray of Light’, from soundtrack work for ‘Dick Tracy’ and ‘Evita’, to collaborations with superstars Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and Dua Lipa, this truly strikes a pose for any fan of the ‘Material Girl’ aka ‘Madame X’. ‘Madonna: Song By Song’ reclaims her stature as not just one of the greatest pop artists ever, but also as songwriter/producer of some of the biggest selling and most memorable songs of all time.
Across the genres, across the generations, across the board, this book presents over one hundred inspirational albums by women, from top-selling hits to the indie and obscure. Classic Album Sundays - the world's most popular album listening event and content platform - initiated an #AlbumsByWomen campaign in support of International Women's Day 2018. The hashtag soon grew into a movement, devoted to women's musicality and the power of the female voice. Collaborators shared photographs and commentary on their favourite albums by female artists, gathered together here in a single volume. Pick up any other book on the theme of 'Albums You Must Hear Before You Die', and you'll confront a heavy gender bias. This project redresses the gender imbalance: an overdue celebration of women's creativity and musicianship within a male-dominated sphere. It features over a hundred submissions from high-profile musicians including Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, Peter Hook, Nina Kraviz, Black Madonna, Gilles Peterson, Rankin, KT Tunstall, John Grant and more. An entire life dedicated to dance, music, entertainment, and even cinema. In her 40-year career, Madonna has influenced entire generations, for better or for worse, with her songs, her scandals, her fashions, and her lifestyle. An outspoken artist who broke many taboos, invented fashions, created, and spread her thoughts through the lyrics of her songs. A pop star who knew how to manage herself, reinventing herself at the right time, daring, provoking, and scandalizing when it was necessary to do so, at least from her point of view. But also a woman, like many others, with her own weaknesses, insecurities, feelings, and emotions. This large format and periodically updated book in limited edition, traces her story, from her childhood to the present day, and her discography, passing through her private life, adventures, loves, apprenticeship, albums, and songs, with dozens of color photos, illustrations, famous phrases she uttered, curiosities, unpublished interviews, and much more. An update and revisiting of the previous biography, "Madonna: From Her Beginnings to Rebel Heart." A unique and collectible work for all pop music lovers. A true celebration book for the Queen of Pop's 40-year career, which should not be missing from the library of all her fans and enthusiasts.
