Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
Excerpt from Catalogue of the State Library of Iowa, 1889: Law Department No printed catalogue of this library has been published since 1872. The work was begun in June, 1888, and was placed in the hands of the printer in February 1889. All accessions as late as February have been included, and during the printing all new books have been incorporated as far as possible. The library contained, the first of February, volumes, so that as nearly as can be estimated about volumes are included. In order to give the greatest information in the smallest space, the form of a classified list mentioning a book but once was deemed advisable. The classifications adopted are the systems used in the San Fran cisco Free Public Library by F. B. Perkins, and the California State Library by T. H. Wallis.
