Excerpt from Catalogue of the Collection of the Late Edward Maris, M. D. Of Philadelphia of Ancient Greek and Roman, Foreign and United States Coins, and the Finest Collection of Paper Money Ever Offered in the United States The collection described in the following pages is the result of many years of assiduous collecting on the part of the late Dr. Edward Maris, of Philadelphia, and is sold, by order of the Executors of his estate, according to an expressed wish of Dr. Maris made a brief time before his decease, that should he die he desired the collection turned over to us to, be catalogued and sold at auction. During the later years of his life, Dr. Maris devoted his attention to the coins of South America and the paper money of the United States - all the series-colonial, Continental, Private Bank issues prior to the enactment of the National Banking Act, Confederate States and Government Fractional bills. Collectors will find many desirable coins described and those interested in Paper Money the greatest opportunity yet offered to acquire a vast amount of material in this interesting branch of Numismatics. The notes issued by Banks, etc., prior to the National Bank Act, are remarkably fine and complete, and our only regret is that the limits of an Auction Sale Catalogue made it necessary to curtail the descriptions but any one who has been collecting in this field will quickly recognize how rare and complete a line is here offered when he compares the Catalogue with the same State in his own collection. Every coin and medal is guaranteed genuine and this guar antee remains in force indefinitely. Collectors will confer a benefit on themselves and favor us by sending in their bids as long before the sale as possible. Every sale several letters of bids arrive from one to three days after sale has taken place. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
