Excerpt from Catalogue of Members: Yale Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa; Alpha of Connecticut In 1905 a complete catalogue of the Yale Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was issued for the first time since 1853. The present cata logue marks the beginning of the policy of publishing a revised edition decennially. This volume includes all members elected since the publication of the last catalogue. We. Feel that by this regular edition and constant revision much can be done to keep graduate and undergraduate members in touch with one another, and to strengthen the fraternal tie between alumni. With this latter end in view, a complete locality index of all living members has been appended. Attention is called to the change in Article II of the Constitution, relating to membership. After trial of various methods, this system. Has been adopted in order to make election to the Chapter even more of an honor than formerly, and to bring the provisions of our Constitution into accord with the suggestions of the national body. This method is itself a more or less tentative one, but will mark a great step in advance when it goes into effect in the fall of 1916. Although the revision of all material has been undertaken very carefully, we are aware that mistakes must still exist and we should be grateful for the cooperation of readers in eliminating them in future catalogues. Meagre reports are available, too, in many cases and we should appreciate any additional information. The work of the committee in 1905 was remarkably thorough. We wish to express our appreciation of that work, which has gone far toward making the present volume possible. We are also grate ful to all those members who responded so readily to the request for information on the cards sent out. Since the Chapter was founded on November 13, 1780, a total of from this Chapter have worn the key, of whom forty-eight have been honorary members, not graduates of Yale College. Honorary members who graduated at Yale are put under their respective classes. Other honorary members will be found in a separate list at the end of the catalogue. There are living members, including those recently initiated from the Class of 1916. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
