He falls for a girl, who is miles away from him, after chatting with her one night. Still, he is able to hear her heartbeat. What would you do if destiny twists the road you take at each and every step of your life? How will you react when the happiness in front of you converts into chaos in one second? Being an engineer, Parth never loses hope in his better half, but he is helpless in front of his destiny. He silently accepts it as a part of his life. Still, today, he wakes up in the morning with the hope for her to come and say, “PARTH, I LOVE YOU!” He would hug her so tightly in his arms and never let go. Let’s see what happens. This collection of writings about my experiences as a psychotherapist and teacher first describes some of the childhood circumstances that influenced my becoming a good listener. It then highlights what I learned from two of my professors that influenced my decision me to become a psychologist. The book is primarily intended to serve as a memoir, my legacy for family and friends. It is essentially an account of my work as a psychologist, describing the skills—including careful listening—which I learned to employ with my clients in therapy and with the students I taught. It is intended, not as a textbook, to instruct about therapeutic or teaching methods, but as a description of the techniques I learned along the way to becoming a successful therapist and educator. More than simply emphasizing the importance of listening carefully to what my clients said--as well as what they didn’t say—I hope to convey by my example what behavior must be attended to, what should be encouraged and what values ought to be reinforced in order to meet the needs of those seeking assistance.

Early on a Tuesday afternoon in May, about to board a cruise ship to Bermuda, Mike and Jan meet. Mike recognizes her immediately, and after he introduces himself, she recognizes him. As they become reacquainted, Mike, a devout Christian, finds himself falling in love with Jan all over again. Mike understands the Biblical ban on unequally yoking oneself with someone who is not a believer. Despite the significant number of AIDS affected youth in the United States, the plight of these young people has been largely disregarded. This book presents the stories of several young people whose mothers had AIDS or had died from the disease. They speak directly about their experiences and their concerns. Individual and common themes in their stories are analyzed to gain insight into their problems and to develop an understanding of how best to respond to their needs. Some prominent themes shared by the participants are: longstanding unstable living arrangements; serious conflict with their mothers; multiple losses in the youth's lives, even before the AIDS crisis; the mother's past drug use; behavioral problems and difficulties with limits in the family, school, and the community; unsafe sexual behavior; and childbearing within a year of the mother's death. These issues are exacerbated by the poverty, discrimination, and violence in the communities in which these and many AIDS affected young people live.
