Using a previous formulation, calculations are carried out for the modal conversion coefficients which arise in VLF waveguide propagation in an idealized transition between day and night. A sharply bounded isotropic ionosphere is employed and the transition region is approximated by a finite number of uniform sections of equal length. The relevance of the results to experimental data is discussed briefly. It is indicated that the observed conversion between modes of order one and two are consistent with the calculated results if the transition length for sunrise is of the order of 500 km.
