The new atheists are on the warpath. They come armed with arguments to show that belief in God is absurd and dangerous. In the name of societal progress, they promote purging the world of all religious practice. And they claim that people of faith are mentally ill. Some of the new atheists openly declare their hatred for the Judeo-Christian God. Christian apologists have been quick to respond to the new atheists’ arguments. But there is another dimension to the issue which begs to be addressed--the root causes of atheism. Where do atheists come from? They will say their arguments are logical; religious arguments are not. What if, however, the reverse is true? Jeffrey Stueber's The Vast Wastelands of Unbelief is a survey of the many errors and inconsistencies in secular thought - whether in the form of atheism or secular humanism. Their beliefs are often laden with internal contradictions as in Geoffrey Berg's claim that God's existence cannot be verified; a claim that precedes his assertion that this world is not what God would create if God existed. Berg cannot have it both ways. Atheists often say there is no immaterial soul or self; our thoughts and decisions are the result of genes, memes, or neurons. We are simply biological robots. Yet, while they say this is true, their actions testify to their existence as intentional beings, not robots. They don't or can't even take their own beliefs seriously. Secular beliefs yield harmful results also. The liberal culture of death testifies to this fact.
