This book is a collection of most of my songs, recast as poems. They were written over a fifty-year period, and, over that time, my experiences have grown and my sensibilities have shifted in various ways. But it seems to me that we are all on a very similar journey. And my hope is that there is something in here for you—that the songs on the wind that have come to me, moved me, carried me, will help sing you homeward as well.
Looks at the geography, customs, food, and history of Mexico.

God desires the very best for you! You can begin today to receive His best in your life and be a part of His family. This minibook is a clear and easy-to-understand guide to salvation, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and healing.
M is for las muralistas, making murals of island vistas. Waterfalls that hide brick walls. Rain forests full of tropical trees. N is for the noisy neighbors who sit on the stoop and catch the breeze. When Ava's friend Chien visits her in the barrio, she takes him on a tour of all her favorite things about the neighborhood. From fire hydrants to ice-cream trucks, bodegas to trolley tracks, the sights and sounds of the barrio-even the less perfect things-come to life through the words of award-winning playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes. A perfect way to get kids exploring and talking about what makes their own neighborhoods special!

Despite recent developments in epigraphy, ethnopoetics, and the literary investigation of colonial and modern materials, few studies have compared glyphic texts and historic Maya literatures. Parallel Worlds examines Maya writing and literary traditions from the Classic period until today, revealing remarkable continuities across time. In this volume, contributions from leading scholars in Maya literary studies examine Maya discourse from Classic period hieroglyphic inscriptions to contemporary spoken narratives, focusing on parallelism to unite the literature historically. Contributors take an ethnopoetic approach, examining literary and verbal arts from a historical perspective, acknowledging that poetic form is as important as narrative content in deciphering what these writings reveal about ancient and contemporary worldviews. Encompassing a variety of literary motifs, including humor, folklore, incantation, mythology, and more specific forms of parallelism such as couplets, chiasms, kennings, and hyperbatons, Parallel Worlds is a rich journey through Maya culture and pre-Columbian literature that will be of interest to students and scholars of anthropology, ethnography, Latin American history, epigraphy, comparative literature, language studies, indigenous studies, and mythology.
This newly revised text, Teaching English Learners in Inclusive Classrooms, updates and expands upon issues of great concern to those working with students who are English learners as well as having special learning challenges. Given the unacceptable school drop-out rates of these students, this book provides practical tools and strategies for educators to approach the unique learning needs of these students. It draws upon the most current laws and research in the interconnected fields of bilingual and multicultural education, language and literacy, and special needs. Additionally, Dr. Durán draws upon her extensive experiences via classroom teaching, university-level instruction, and textbook writing in these fields to present a highly useful compendium of ideas. The range of chapters exemplifies the width and breadth of this material. A sampling of these chapters include topics such as functional language, teaching students with more extensive needs, working with cross-cultural and linguistic diverse students in the U.S. and Central America, helping students with autism and includes information in the area of transition for mild/moderate and students with more extensive needs. There is also information as before on literacy and a chapter in the content subjects as it relates to social studies as well as a chapter on families of cross-cultural students. Many of the chapters look to use of direct instruction approaches that have proven to be successful strategies in addressing these educational areas. Teachers and teacher trainers will find this clear, well-written text to be an invaluable resource in addressing the needs of myriad and unique students.
