These baby bears are just right!
Retells the Miwok Indian legend in which a little measuring worm saves two bear cubs stranded at the top of the rock known as El Capitan.
Bear cubs are born in a den while their mother bear is in hibernation. Young students will learn how bear cubs hunt for berries and climb trees to escape danger.
With the Northern Kingdoms run by noble polar bears north of Ga'Hoole on the brink of collapse, a group of power-hungry bears has seized control. When their mother is taken prisoner by the bears, twin inexperienced polar bear cubs begin a quest to find her and not only must learn how to survive but will end up in the midst of an epic battle.
Have you ever wondered why baby bears are called cubs? Why are baby deer called fawns, baby cats kittens, and baby cows calves? Why not John or Sue or Pat? Many, many years ago, in a forest not far from you now, a small bear with a unique name learned that being different, even in name alone, can be a challenge. When Cubby the little bear found himself alone on a short and dangerous adventure, he learned a lot about himself. He confronted his fears, faced down a scary hunter, and used his secret weapon to save his friends: laughter! Cubby's adventure will always be remembered, as it was passed down from family to family to explain the real reason baby animals are named as they are.
From the creator of the Gossie and Gertie books comes a playful and charming twist on the relationship between children and the adults who care for them. Old Bear loves Little Cub with all his heart. He makes sure that Little Cub eats all his porridge, takes a nap during their snowy walk, and wraps his red scarf tightly around his ears. Little Cub doesn't want to be told what to do, but he always listens to Old Bear because he knows that Old Bear loves him so. But when Old Bear catches a cold, it's Little Cub who knows just what to do to make Old Bear feel better. This winning story shows just how much Old Bears and Little Cubs love one another--with all their hearts.
The True Story of a Big-Hearted Bear is a factual story of a mother grizzly bear named Baylee, her three cubs, and a two-year-old grizzly who Baylee adopts into their family. Grizzly bears are extremely protective of their young and generally do not tolerate other bears. However, Baylee raised her adopted son, Emmett, along with her three cubs until he was ready to live on his own. What happens next in the wilds of Alaska reveals that just like people, every grizzly bear is a little different from every other one, each with its own personality. The story is told with words and photographs exactly as it happened. The authors pledge to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book to Vital Ground. Vital Ground, a non-profit conservation organization, works with private landowners to protect essential habitat in the last ecosystems where grizzlies roam. Together with its many partners, the group has helped conserve more than a quarter of a million acres in Alaska and the heart of the Rocky Mountains. For more information visit www.vitalground.org.
Pictures and text introduce bear cubs, their bodies, what they eat and their habitats.
Explains the growth and development of bear cubs.
I have been caring for bear cubs and yearlings for years now, and I sure have gained an understanding into their lives as I watch them grow, and develop while focusing my attention to have these bears released back to the wild eventually, where they can live their bear lives out like any other wild bear can. I have a little business and photograph the very bears I care for and observe. -Dawn L. Brown
