Urbanisation in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, poses challenges to urban living conditions. Despite large scale housing programmes from the side of the government, construction and settling processes have largely remained incremental. Nadine Appelhans focuses on the relation between statutory planning and practices of everyday urbanisation. The findings from Bahir Dar suggest that some mundane regimes of building the city are patronised, while others are considered undesired by policy makers. Based on this insight, the author argues that urban development in Bahir Dar needs to be locally grounded, differentiated and inclusive to avoid further tendencies of segregation.

At the request of the Government of Liberia (GoL), the IMF Fiscal Affairs Department (FAD) led an external assessment of the central government’s public financial management (PFM) systems based on the Public Expenditure and Financial Accountability (PEFA) methodology. The assessment was undertaken in close collaboration with the Ministry of Finance’s (MoF) PFM Reform Coordination Unit (RCU), with the participation of staff of the African Development Bank and the World Bank, and with financial support from the European Union and Sida. The assessment examines progress since the PEFA assessment of 2007 and provides a renewed baseline for monitoring progress in PFM reform and for supporting the GoL in refining, where necessary, the current PFM reform strategy. The assessment snapshot date was April 23, 2012. The report was reviewed by the GoL, the PEFA Secretariat, a donor reference group, and FAD, the latter being at the same time responsible for quality assurance.
This richly illustrated volume is the first complete atlas of coffee production in Ethiopia, birth-place of coffee drinking and the main home of wild arabica coffee (Coffea arabica). Around 15 million Ethiopians are coffee farmers, and Ethiopia is Africa's largest coffee producer and one of the most important coffee-growing regions of the world, renowned for its diversity of flavour profiles, including those of the celebrated coffees of Harar, Limu, Sidamo, and Yirgacheffe. The aim of the Coffee Atlas of Ethiopia is to inform the reader about the coffee landscape of Ethiopia. Also included in the atlas are key coffee origins, coffee towns and coffee delivery centres, as well as other useful items. The atlas can be used to assess the potential and vulnerability for coffee farming in Ethiopia, as well as provide a logistics resource for the coffee sector and those otherwise working with, or interested in, coffee. It is also an essential reference for resource managers.
Road asset management is one of the top priorities of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Transport and Trade Facilitation Strategy 2020. The implementation of performance-based road maintenance contracts (PBCs)—an essential element of road asset management—promotes effective and efficient maintenance of road networks. Well-designed PBCs keep roads in predefined good condition at relatively low cost. This guide aims to help policy makers in CAREC member countries understand and implement PBCs.
