Thomas Barnes (ca. 1615-1688) immigrated to America in 1635 and settled at Hartford, Connecticut. He and his first wife, Mary, had three children, 1650-1655. Mary was convicted of witchcraft in 1662/3. He and his second wife, Mary Andrew, had two sons, 1667-16__. Record chiefly follows line of descent to Walter Balfour Barnes. He was born in 1829 in Broome County, New York, the son of Thomas Barnes (1752-1831). He was living in Illinois by 1851 and Wisconsin by 1861. His family migrated to Des Moines, Iowa, in 1870. Descendants listed lived in Iowa, California and elsewhere.
