And when JJ steps up and tells Autumn he’s the one she should be with if she wants someone who really cares about her and a pop star makes a major play for her, Autumn is totally confused. Her friends have Big Drama issues going on too, and Autumn wants to be there for them. Then something mind-blowing happens. She’s suddenly given an incredible crazy-fun opportunity: a map that takes her anyplace she wants to go. At first it seems like an amazing gift. But showing up IRL where you’re least expected has life-changing consequences. Is Autumn ready to handle the fallout? In this illuminating and deeply moving memoir, a former American military intelligence officer goes beyond traditional Cold War espionage tales to tell the true story of her family—of five women separated by the Iron Curtain for more than forty years, and their miraculous reunion after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Forty Autumns makes visceral the pain and longing of one family forced to live apart in a world divided by two. At twenty, Hanna escaped from East to West Germany. But the price of freedom—leaving behind her parents, eight siblings, and family home—was heartbreaking. Uprooted, Hanna eventually moved to America, where she settled down with her husband and had children of her own. Growing up near Washington, D.C., Hanna’s daughter, Nina Willner became the first female Army Intelligence Officer to lead sensitive intelligence operations in East Berlin at the height of the Cold War. Though only a few miles separated American Nina and her German relatives—grandmother Oma, Aunt Heidi, and cousin, Cordula, a member of the East German Olympic training team—a bitter political war kept them apart. In Forty Autumns, Nina recounts her family’s story—five ordinary lives buffeted by circumstances beyond their control. She takes us deep into the tumultuous and terrifying world of East Germany under Communist rule, revealing both the cruel reality her relatives endured and her own experiences as an intelligence officer, running secret operations behind the Berlin Wall that put her life at risk. A personal look at a tenuous era that divided a city and a nation, and continues to haunt us, Forty Autumns is an intimate and beautifully written story of courage, resilience, and love—of five women whose spirits could not be broken, and who fought to preserve what matters most: family. Forty Autumns is illustrated with dozens of black-and-white and color photographs.

Nikki Rowen desires a family of her own—but first comes love, then comes marriage. She thought she had the former, until the moment she mentioned the latter and her boyfriend left her with nothing but a broken heart. Just as she’s beginning to doubt she’ll ever have a ‘til death do us part Happily Ever After, she meets her new neighbor in the most unexpected way. In Sam Mallin's experience, the word family is synonymous with abandonment; he’s more than content on his own. Yet, in less than a week, he finds himself caring for an infant dropped on his doorstep, and playing house with his beautiful next-door-neighbor. When his feelings for Nikki deepen, he fears he’s nothing more than the ready-made family she so desperately wishes for. How can a self-proclaimed loner hold onto the two females most important to him without history repeating itself in a world of heartbreak? EXCERPT: He’d just reached into the refrigerator for a beer when the doorbell chimed. The cheery summons grated across his nerves, making him cringe. Could he ignore this unwanted visitor who appeared to have practically been waiting in the bushes for him? A glance over his shoulder gave him the answer. Nope. His bare windows, glaring lights, and the volume of the TV made it impossible to pretend he wasn’t home. Curtains and blinds seemed a great investment right about now. Kicking the fridge shut, he twisted the cap from the bottle. The doorbell went off again, twice as long as before, as if the person on the other side held it down. Damn it. If this was another married woman bringing him pie, he was going to— Smile, and say, “Thank you.” That’s what neighbors did, right? He took a long, fortifying pull off his beer, then thumped it on the counter on his way to answer the door. Too bad his neighbor right next door hadn’t been one of those pie-wielding visitors. He’d have invited her inside. Then he got a glimpse through the window...of her standing on his front porch. “Well, whaddaya know,” he murmured with a sudden grin of anticipation. Maybe she’d come in and watch the game with him. Hell, he wouldn’t even care if she held a pie in her hands. He swung the door open and smiled his welcome at the pretty blond. His gaze dropped, then froze. Where he would’ve preferred a pie, she held a baby carrier—complete with baby. Damn, she had a kid. After what his mother put him and his sister through, he didn’t do women with kids. “Samuel Mallin?” He lifted his gaze up from all that pink to a pair of guarded blue eyes. Forcing his lips to maintain their upward curve, he answered, “I prefer Sam. And you’re Nicole, right?” “Nikki.” She frowned. “How’d you—” “I had some of your mail in my box yesterday,” he admitted. “Ah.” Her wry smile was appealing enough to make him forget about the baby. But it faded fast as she took a breath, shifted her stance, then extended her arms, carrier and all. “Sam, this is yours.” There was a crumpled envelope clutched between the fingers of her right hand. Tilting his head, he read his name in the crinkled address field and removed it from her grasp with a laugh. He liked that she’d chosen to bring his mail over personally. If he’d been thinking, he’d have done it first—and found out about the kid. “Thanks,” he said as her baby began to fuss. “I just put your stuff in your mailbox.” Nikki lifted the carrier higher with an exasperated huff. “You don’t understand. She is yours.” ~~~ To everything there is a season... Love finds a way during the four seasons in the Romancing Wisconsin Series. Autumn’s Diary of Dreams is a book written by 10-years old girl and about different environments and routines-especially children and how it can affect mental state. This is a story about how little minds cope with different situations and it doesn't always have to be bad. Mayster's emotions show it doesn't matter where you are, it matters who you are. It tells not to give up on yourself or family to continue being resilient and mature about heart-breaking and future making experiences. In the end, she shows how she goes from unpopular to popular backing up the moral of the story that says to never underestimate yourself. Not every change is horrible. We are scared of unknown things, but Mayster uses it in her own advance and by doing her best, she turns out to be what she had desired the most. The author has done an impeccable job in creating the thrill from the first page of the book till the last, making you read the entire book in one sitting. For me, it has been my children’s favorite book of the year, and for that, I feel highly obligated to appreciate Alexandra’s sincere efforts.
This book is a collection of poems dealing with the author's own personal reflections about life. They are works of encouragement, faith, and social consciousness meant to uplift the reader in their daily walk through their own individual journey. They were written as a message of hope for the trying times in which we currently find ourselves.
America's most successful Grand Prix rider, Margie Goldstein Engle is the star attraction at any horse show in which she competes, as well as a role model for a generation of young equestrians. Despite her parents' objections, young Margie worked odd jobs at stables in exchange for riding lessons, then proved her ability in the show ring on ponies and, later, on horses. Her first Grand Prix victory came in 1986 on Daydream, and was followed by such notable blue-ribbon successes as the prestigious American Invitational, the Budweiser AGA Show Jumping Championship, and representing the United States in Nations Cups. She is the American Grandprix Association's only eight-time Rider of the Year, and the first rider ever to place first, second, third, fourth, and fifth in a single Grand Prix class. The route to the top was not an easy one. Margie had to overcome financial challenges and a series of bone-breaking injuries that threatened to end her career. But thanks to her courage and tenacity, and the love and support of her family--especially husband, Steve--and her sponsors and fans, she rebounded to increased prominence at the international level. In addition to telling this extraordinary and inspiring story, the book offers many of the horsemanship tips and techniques that have given Margie and her students the winner's edge. Written by someone who has known Margie best--her mother--No Hurdle Too High will appeal to everyone, rider or not, who thrills to challenges and triumphs at the highest level.
