This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th IEEE International Workshop on IP Operations and Management, IPOM 2006, held in Dublin, Ireland in October 2006 in the course of the 2nd International Week on Management of Networks and Services, Manweek 2006. The 18 revised full papers and four revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 45 submissions.
The network management community has been pushed towards the design of alternative management approaches able to support heterogeneity, scalability, reliability, and minor human intervention. The employment of self-* properties and Peer-To-Peer (P2P) are seen as promising alternatives, able to provide the sophisticated solutions required. Despite being developed in parallel, and with minor direct connections perceived between them, self-* properties and P2P can be used concurrently. In Self-* and P2P for Network Management: Design Principles and Case Studies, the authors explore the issues behind the joint use of self-* properties and P2P, and present: a survey relating autonomic computing and self-* properties, P2P, and network and service management; the design of solutions that explore parallel and cooperative behavior of management peers; the change in angle of network management solution development from APIs, protocols, architectures, and frameworks to the design of management algorithms.

Autonomic networking aims to solve the mounting problems created by increasingly complex networks, by enabling devices and service-providers to decide, preferably without human intervention, what to do at any given moment, and ultimately to create self-managing networks that can interface with each other, adapting their behavior to provide the best service to the end-user in all situations. This book gives both an understanding and an assessment of the principles, methods and architectures in autonomous network management, as well as lessons learned from, the ongoing initiatives in the field. It includes contributions from industry groups at Orange Labs, Motorola, Ericsson, the ANA EU Project and leading universities. These groups all provide chapters examining the international research projects to which they are contributing, such as the EU Autonomic Network Architecture Project and Ambient Networks EU Project, reviewing current developments and demonstrating how autonomic management principles are used to define new architectures, models, protocols, and mechanisms for future network equipment. - Provides reviews of cutting-edge approaches to the management of complex telecommunications, sensors, etc. networks based on new autonomic approaches. Research and development of autonomics have come a long way, and we are - lighted to present the proceedings of the 4th IEEE International Workshop on Modeling Autonomic Communications Environments (MACE 2009). As in the last three years, this workshop was held as part of Manweek, the International Week on Management of Networks and Services, which took place in the cult- ally rich city of Venice in Italy. Manweek is now an umbrella of ?ve workshops and conferences focusing on di?erent aspects of network and service mana- ment, including MACE, distributed operations and management (DSOM), - basedmanagement(IPOM),towardsmultimediaandmobilenetworks(MMNS), and virtualization and middleware for next generation networks (NGNM). F- ther information of Manweek and the individual workshops and conferences can be found athttp://www.manweek.org. MACE started as an experiment, in 2006, and created a small community that now ?nds itself attracted back each year by a feeling of excitement and anticipation to share new advances and development. Certainly, MACE is not as shiny or practiced as other well-known conferences and workshops, but we consider this a feature of the workshop itself. New ideas, a little rough around theedges(andsometimesmorethanalittle),oftenquiteun?nished,popoutand provoke extensive discussion. Science needs this kind of exploratory adventure, and we have been strongly motivated to continue preserving this atmosphere of exploration and discussion in this year’s technical program.
This volume contains the post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Critical Information Infrastructure Security (CRITIS 2007), that was held during October 3–5, 2007 in Benalmadena-Costa (Malaga), Spain, and was hosted by the University of Malaga, Computer Science Department. In response to the 2007 call for papers, 75 papers were submitted. Each paper was reviewed by three members of the Program Committee, on the basis of significance, novelty, technical quality and critical infrastructures relevance of the work reported therein. At the end of the reviewing process, only 29 papers were selected for pres- tation. Revisions were not checked and the authors bear full responsibility for the content of their papers. CRITIS 2007 was very fortunate to have four exceptional invited speakers: Adrian Gheorghe (Old Dominion University, USA), Paulo Veríssimo (Universidade de L- boa, Portugal), Donald Dudenhoeffer (Idaho National Labs, USA), and Jacques Bus (European Commission, INFSO Unit "Security"). The four provided a high added value to the quality of the conference with very significant talks on different and int- esting aspects of Critical Information Infrastructures. In 2007, CRITIS demonstrated its outstanding quality in this research area by - cluding ITCIP, which definitively reinforced the workshop. Additionally, the solid involvement of the IEEE community on CIP was a key factor for the success of the event. Moreover, CRITIS received sponsorship from Telecom Italia, JRC of the European Commission, IRRIIS, IFIP, and IABG, to whom we are greatly indebted.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th International Conference on Ad-Hoc, Mobile, and Wireless Networks, ADHOC-NOW 2008, held in Sophia-Antipolis, France, September 2008. The 40 revised full papers and the 15 poster presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from 110 submissions. The papers deal with advances in Ad-Hoc networks, i.e. wireless, self-organizing systems formed by co-operating nodes within communication range of each other that form temporary networks. Their topology is dynamic, decentralized, ever changing and the nodes may move around arbitrarily.
