Letters (1-4) discuss Rooney's offer of a [1603] Hamlet quarto and his sale of it to Mr. Boone who then sold it to Halliwell. In (1) Halliwell-Phillipps also shows how anxiously he was waiting for a copy of As you like it to turn up.

(13) is a circular notice of his proposal to reprint in limited editions texts of "Curious Early English literature." (34) refers to his gift of a large collection of Shakespeareana to the University of Edinburgh to form the first Shakespearean library in Scotland.
Discusses woodcuts; Halliwell states that he can only consider two likenesses of Shakespeare to be reliable, the Droeshout engraving and the Stratford bust.
