Letters (1-4) discuss Rooney's offer of a [1603] Hamlet quarto and his sale of it to Mr. Boone who then sold it to Halliwell. For a discussion of the circumstances surrounding this discover, see Phillipps Studies, by A.N.L. Munby, vol. II, p. 116. Letter (9), [1853?] begins "Bad luck to the fellow who imposed on Collier by the Perkins forgeries!" (13) is a circular notice of his proposal to reprint in limited editions texts of "Curious Early English literature." (34) refers to his gift of a large collection of Shakespeareana to the University of Edinburgh to form the first Shakespearean library in Scotland.
Discusses woodcuts; Halliwell states that he can only consider two likenesses of Shakespeare to be reliable, the Droeshout engraving and the Stratford bust.
