Sothern emphatically informs Winter that he is not offended. He has been very ill and had to take time off for rest which has disrupted his plans.
Sothern is sorry to hear that Winter is unwell and tells him to call as soon as he wants to look at the memoranda and prints.
Sothern entreats Winter to dine with him and a lady and to pick up a copy of act 1 which is sitting on his mantle.
Sothern must postpone Sunday's dinner because his eldest brother is ill.
