Two brief notes in Winter's hand are pasted on the verso of the second leaf: "Duff was one of the earliest of Joe Jefferson's friends" and "John A. Duff, 1873, Augustin Daly married Mr. Duff's daughter." (2) On letterhead of Daly's Theatre, New York; asks Winter to refer to the great success of Wives as often and in as strong terms as possible.
Begins the letter with, "When the icicles hang on the wall," and describes seeing the Horace Greely monument with icicles hanging from his ears. He looked for "Dick the shepherd blowing his nail" and saw a cab driver in that very act. With envelope.
Jefferson hopes Winter will drop in on him at the theater. On letterhead of Booth's Theatre, 23rd Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues. Addressed "My dear Willie" and signed "Joe." Date of letter based on annotation in the hand of William Winter.
