"At the request of Ms. Sue Rutka of Belt Collins & Associates (BCA), on behalf of their client, Queen Liliuokalani Trust, Paul H. Rosendahl, Ph.D., Inc. (PHRI) recently conducted an archaeological inventory survey of approximately 100-acre Queen Liliuokalani Trust KIS expansion site, Keahuolu, North Kona, Island of Hawaii (TMK:3-7-4-08:Por.2). The overall objective of the survey, conducted in conjunction with a final subdivision approval for the first increment of an expansion of the Kona industrial subdivision, was to provide information sufficient to satisfy the historic preservation regulatory review requirements of the Hawaii County Planning Department (HCPD) and the Department of Land and Natural Resources - State Historic Preservation Division (DLNR-SHPD). During the field work 18 sites with 38 component features were identified. The features consisted of modified outcrops, pahoehoe excavations, filled depressions, alignments, mounds, terraces, walls, hearth, walled overhangs, an enclosure, a kerbstone trail, a modified depression, a cairn, a cave shelter and a burial cave. Based on current findings 16 of the 18 identified sites were assessed as significant solely for information content" -- Summary.
