"Whoever said that You cant go back never contemplated the results of war. Its still an intrinsic part of my mental fabric. Often my nightmares carry me back to a place that I detest, a place called Vietnam. It fractures my ego by wafting me along the gentle breeze that turns fantasy into horror. It slams me back into the jungles of my mind and once Im there I cant seem to extricate myself from the bloody legacy of that brutal war. This book is a story that follows my struggles through the mine-infested, ragged edge of fear. The book carries the reader into the places in my mind that mere words can never explain This book is an anthology of the rude and brutal images as seen through the eyes of a naive, innocent 20 year old, one who hadnt even tasted life yet. The book takes a look at what war was like as it evolves from beauty into horror, into the blood-stained shadows of the vicious and mind altering images that once housed an indomitable spirit, fracturing my soul with war torn images of Vietnam. I sit here, glaring through the windows of sadness at a war I fought so many years ago, and it left me with way too much mental baggage"
"Broken Pieces" is a collection of my poems which I had penned down, around two decades back, which sadly, though was sitting on the my bookshelf catching dust. After years of hesitation, I have finally decided to share them with you. These poems were written at a time in my life when I was pushed to the edge. That’s when I found these words. They have served me well; in healing my emotional wounds, which I say we all have our share, while travelling through our life’s paths. None of us are immune to it, but then at the end we need to remind ourselves that "a luminous ray of hope awaits at the other end."
A collection of pieces, both prose and poetry, inspired by life: love, loss, abuse, trust, grief, and ultimately, love again.
Includes an excerpt from the next Cass Raines Mystery Borrowed Time (pages 421-436).
Collecting broken pieces is collection of different genres. It consists of writings of broken people. It maybe love or life, each and every person breaks down in life. It doesn't matter how many times a person has broken, what matters is standing up again collecting all strength inspite of falling. This book is especially made for those people, who might be going or have gone through breakdown and can't get words to express or feelings, they'll definitely connect to our co-authors writings.
Broken Pieces is an award winning book about relationships, a study of women, and a book with heart. Vastly different in tone from her previous essay collections A Walk In The Snark and The Mancode: Exposed, Broken Pieces is a collection of pieces inspired by life: love, loss, abuse, trust, grief, and ultimately, love again. While still non-fiction, best-selling Broken Pieces is not humor at all. In Thompson's most intensive work to date, she opens her soul and invites the reader in for a visit. Thompson goes into those long buried rooms we lock up deep inside and shares a bit of her soul. Broken Pieces is vulnerable, raw honesty, and no-holds barred. Not easy subjects -- love, loss, sexual abuse, date rape, grief -- but real ones, told in pieces (thus the title).Poetry, prose, and essays to let you into one woman's life -- a searingly raw examination of topics most people avoid
This is my fourth published book, but second poetry book. My style of writing is no "Roses are red, violets are blue", nor is it "I know why the caged bird sings", or "The Weary Blues". It's definitely not love in the air and/or explaining why the river flows. Nothing against those styles or genres, I just don't fall under any of those categories. In fact, I'm glad I don't. Everyone seems to be confined to boxes, titles and labels. I've just never been that chick. What may work for me today, may not work for me tomorrow.
Broken Pieces - Tales of Heartbreak takes the reader on a deep, beautiful, and reflective journey to love's other side. With his collection of one hundred sublimely written poems, Shah Asad Rizvi captures the full spectrum of love lost with words that will both resonate with and haunt the reader's soul. A truthful and poignant telling, Shah does not shy away from the pain nor causes of broken hardnesses. Broken Pieces is akin to a master's thesis on all the ways that a heart can hurt after love has departed. From the ill actions that bring us to such a hurtful place to the heart's every willing desire to love again even though held back by our painful misgivings, the reader will find themselves again and again in the pages of Broken Pieces. Even with such complicated and painful subject matter, Shah has a startling and astonishing way of wrapping the reader up in the pages of his books. Broken Pieces is no exception. Perhaps even a cathartic and feeling journey for some, this exquisite poetry collection invites the reader to a tour of heartbreak. However, as only he can do, Shah subtly reminds us that even the heart's pain and suffering is a beautiful experience. To know such sorrow, we must first have known unimaginable love. By acknowledging the path of broken heartedness, Shah's compelling words will have even those with a jaded and rejected heart, wondering if new love is possible. Simply stated, Broken Pieces is a poetry collection that will show you the triumph of love in the shattered and Broken Pieces of a broken heart.
The paradoxical concepts of pain, power, triumph, and trauma that we experience through life's extraordinary journeys become the major pieces in the foundation of our whole being, and the main sources of who we are. From overwhelming struggles and challenges to unconditional joy and wondrous celebrations, Jodiann A. Morgan constructed the powerful and emotional poems in this collection as mirrors, not only in reflection of her mistakes and miracles, but to help others embrace their battles, discover their own identities, and gain a new understanding of God's love, sacrifice, and grace that guide, protect, and lead them to an eternal breakthrough. With divine empathy, each poem is deeply connected to who she is, but written to touch every broken heart, flooded mind, and silent warrior. Through God's eyes, the messes we indulge in are the clay He uses to mold us into beautiful models to be put on display in His museum of divine transformation to attract greatness for His glory. For every broken part of us that exists, we need our broken pieces to fit together to let His promise manifest in our lives.
Jake Smith, a book smart loner hiding in a dead-end welding job, is thrown for a loop when his fifteen-year-old brother Ben shows up on his doorstep after outing their father for molestation. During Dad's trial it comes to light that not only was Jake also abused, but he turned a blind eye for years as it happened to his brother. But with Dad in jail and Mom insistent that Ben is lying, Ben is forced to rely on Jake even if he can't forgive him, and Jake is forced to step up and care for his brother despite struggling with his own trauma and brutal flashbacks. Broken Parts is the first full novel in a series exploring how these brothers evolve socially and emotionally in the aftermath of their father's abuse and in the face of life's never-ending ordeals. Jake and Ben fight like siblings despite their growing dependence on each other in this dark, emotional tale full of grit, humor, and the spark of survival.
