Excerpt from Annual Report of the Secretary of State, to the Governor of the State of Ohio: For the Year 1879 The estimates for the ensuing year for expenses and salaries for this departmmt has been carefully made and presented to the Auditor of State. The increase in the estimate for salaries is made necessary by the imposition, from time to time, of additional duties and labor, one of which is the provision of section 312 of the Revised Statutes. This, to gether with various other duties, will make it necessary to employ for a considerable portion of the year, an extra clerk. The estimate for contin gent expenses will be absolutely necessary in order to carry out the pro visions of section 76 of the Revised Statutes.
