Annals of Language and Learning is the conference proceedings of the Second International Online Language Conference which was successfully held in July 2009. This event allowed professors, Master's students, Ph.D. students, and academics from around the world to submit papers pertaining to the areas of the conference theme. The conference was organized by International Online Knowledge Service Provider (IOKSP).
This is an open access book. The rapid advancement of technology has created new civilization in this digital era which affects almost all aspects of life including language, literature, culture, and education. The digital era brings opportunities as well as challenges that people have to deal with. Thus, some adjustments need to be done in order to keep up with those changes. Studies on language, literature, culture, and education need to be continuously conducted and developed to revitalize those aspects in facing the dynamic changes of the digital era. In relation to this, Faculty of Language and Literature Education, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (FPBS UPI) hosts this year’s International Conference on Language, Literature and Culture (ICOLLITE) with the theme “Revitalization of Language, Literature, Culture, and Education in the Digital Era” as a forum for experts and professionals to share their research, ideas, and experiences on this issue. Presenters and participants are welcome to discuss and disseminate current issues and offer solutions to the challenges of our time. Discussions on current trends in digital literacies are expected to pave way to learn from each other for betterment as one big society of humankinds, regardless of their social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
This book aims to present the results of research in the sphere of business language and culture, as well as the experience of pedagogical staff and practitioners concerned with broadly understood business. The highly complex nature of contemporary business environment, approached from both the theoretical and practical standpoint, does not cease to prove that research into business studies cannot be dissociated from the cultural and linguistic context. In the digital age, technology has become essential for online learning and teaching for learners at all levels of education. YouTube is highly popular amongst young people in Hong Kong and across the globe. In foreign language acquisition, how do learners perceive the use of YouTube for English learning in out-of-class settings? This book reports the findings of a case study of learners at a university in Hong Kong from students’ perspectives. The detailed, qualitative study adopts a narrative inquiry approach in order to examine students’ perceptions, factors shaping them, and the extent to which perceptions affect language learning practices on YouTube. The implications highlighted here include developing five qualities for learners that facilitate autonomous and experiential learning out-of-class, training that supplements in-class learning, and whole-person development. The findings shed light on understanding students’ needs and interests for an improved quality of language teaching that meets the challenges of the twenty-first century.
