ANCRiSST 2019 Workshop, held in Rome on 18-21 July 2019, manifests a close collaboration between Europe, Asia and the Americas in the field of smart structures and materials. A year after the tragic collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genova and shortly after its demolition, the scientific discussion on novel solutions in structural health monitoring and control from an outstanding international scientific community is the catalyst for future headway in this field. The ANCRiSST 2019 Procedia expresses current progress in smart materials and structures technology and is witness to ever growing international synergies among researchers. Emerging frontiers in automated inspection, sensing and control of civil infrastructure are focussed on. Six sections gather together contributions in smart materials for sensing and actuation, response prediction and evaluation, measurements and health monitoring, structural control, damage detection, mechatronics and automated inspection.
The attention of many developed countries has increasingly focused on the security and protection of critical infrastructure. The use of Unmanned Systems (USs) for this purpose has been growing rapidly in recent years, as advances in technology, increased versatility and smaller size, together with the reduced risks and costs associated with removing the need for a pilot or operator on board, have all made these systems more attractive. This book, Monitoring and Protection of Critical Infrastructure by Unmanned Systems, presents 15 papers delivered at the NATO Advanced Training Course (ATC) of the same name hosted in Chisinau, the Republic of Moldova, from 30 May to 5 June 2022. This event was held in a hybrid format, and was attended in-person by 12 of the 31 speakers and the majority of the 92 attendees. The aim of the ATC was to explore the monitoring and protection of critical infrastructure using USs. Various USs, including ground control stations (GCS), data communication links, and a range of unmanned aerial (UAV), ground (UGV) and underwater (UUV) vehicles are covered, and the papers included here also deal with topics such as the use of drones for buildings inspection and the new technologies which can help with the recognition and monitoring of anthropogenic threats and natural hazards. There is also a focus on data analysis and modeling. Providing an overview of the use of unmanned vehicle systems and sensor-network technology for monitoring and protection, the book will be of interest to all those working to protect critical infrastructure.
Bridge Maintenance, Safety, Management, Life-Cycle Sustainability and Innovations contains lectures and papers presented at the Tenth International Conference on Bridge Maintenance, Safety and Management (IABMAS 2020), held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, April 11–15, 2021. This volume consists of a book of extended abstracts and a USB card containing the full papers of 571 contributions presented at IABMAS 2020, including the T.Y. Lin Lecture, 9 Keynote Lectures, and 561 technical papers from 40 countries. The contributions presented at IABMAS 2020 deal with the state of the art as well as emerging concepts and innovative applications related to the main aspects of maintenance, safety, management, life-cycle sustainability and technological innovations of bridges. Major topics include: advanced bridge design, construction and maintenance approaches, safety, reliability and risk evaluation, life-cycle management, life-cycle sustainability, standardization, analytical models, bridge management systems, service life prediction, maintenance and management strategies, structural health monitoring, non-destructive testing and field testing, safety, resilience, robustness and redundancy, durability enhancement, repair and rehabilitation, fatigue and corrosion, extreme loads, and application of information and computer technology and artificial intelligence for bridges, among others. This volume provides both an up-to-date overview of the field of bridge engineering and significant contributions to the process of making more rational decisions on maintenance, safety, management, life-cycle sustainability and technological innovations of bridges for the purpose of enhancing the welfare of society. The Editors hope that these Proceedings will serve as a valuable reference to all concerned with bridge structure and infrastructure systems, including engineers, researchers, academics and students from all areas of bridge engineering.
This publication, the end result of cooperation between the Innovative Startup “SARA ENViMOB S.r.l., Servizi e Soluzioni per la Natura e il Turismo” (Sapienza University of Rome), the Network of Enterprises “I Borghi Marinari di Roma – RIBOMAR” and FEDERBALNEARI Lazio Litorale Nord, seeks to promote a bottom-up approach to the transformation of the tourist offer in the area known as Litorale Nord, in the Latium Region, taking it out of its current state of “undertourism”. Litorale Nord possesses a wealth of resources, natural and cultural assets dotted along the coast, in the sea and further inland that have not been fully exploited for tourism purposes. The area lies between three tourism “poles”: the Port of Civitavecchia, Fiumicino Airport and the Rome city centre, which is today suffering from the phenomenon known as “overtourism”.
In this volume we have collected the contributions of many colleagues from the teaching board of Double Degree Joint Master’s Programme in Pedagogy and Educational Sciences and Training of Sapienza University of Rome and two prestigious universities of the Russian Federation: Moscow Federal University for Psychology and Pedagogy (MSUPE) and North-Caucasus Federal University (NCFU) at Stavropol. The present anthology is meant to review the positions and studies that individual teachers from the different universities involved presented in recent years, during online courses, in the lecturing, in the meetings and to discuss their possible opportunities. The volume puts forward this programme, to spread its structure, the theoretical assumptions and the various positions. The contributions are meant to testify a keen interest in internationalization that Sapienza is carrying out. The contributions collected give the reader a chance to share a common interest in the promising approach implied by the Historical-cultural trend in Psychology and Pedagogy of the Vygotsky’s thought, which seems a must in psycho-pedagogical reflections, and in organizing and evaluating school activities.
International openness is one of the fundamental characteristics of the DiAP Department of Architecture and Design, which sees its members active in 57 bilateral collaboration agreements (without counting the Erasmus agreements) with countries in which today there is a demand for architectural design that looks at Italy as a model, not only for studies of historical architecture, but also for contemporary architecture designed in the existing city and for the new building, including complex landscape and environmental systems.
