The aim of this book is to provide a systematic approach to echocardiographic diagnosis based upon a comprehensive understanding of cardiac anatomy. We shall provide abundant anatomic correlates of echocardiographic findings throughout the book. The book will be divided into three sections. Each chapter will cover both normal and pathological findings on echocardiography with anatomic correlation. The first section will address the normal findings which can be appreciated by current day echocardiography. The impact of aging on cardiac structure and function will also be covered in this section. In the second section, specific cardiac diseases will be discussed. The differentiating features between normal and pathologic conditions will be discussed. The last section will address specific clinical settings where echocardiography is pivotal for diagnosis and patient management.
This unique text/atlas superbly documents echocardiographic appearances of congenital malformations of the heart, systematically links these abnormalities to their embryologic origins, and addresses key surgical issues. The book provides complete coverage of cardiac situs and cardiac malpositions in addition to anomalies of venous drainage, cardiac septation, the atrioventricular valves, ventricular looping, the ventricles, the ventricular outflows, the conus and truncus, the aortic arches, and the coronary arteries. Opening chapters chronicle the embryologic development of the heart, establish normal echocardiographic anatomy, and review the fundamentals of Doppler echocardiography and fetal echocardiography. The outstanding collection of illustrations--some 750 in all--features state-of-the-art echocardiographic visualizations as well as supporting pathology and embryology specimens.
FEATURES: 1. A detailed exposé of the anatomical basis of echocardiography.2. Anatomical interpretation of the standard echocardiographic views acquiredduring the comprehensive transthoracic echocardiography examination.3. Unique presentations of cardiac anatomy corresponding to the patient in the examination position............This is the second volume in the introductory foundation series in echocardiography. The aim is to foster optimal image acquisition and interpretation in adult transthoracic echocardiography in this era of "democratization" of the technology.
Echocardiographic diagnosis is based on moving images. Recent advances in ultrasound systems have brought innovative applications into the clinical field and can be integrated into powerful multimedia presentations for teaching. The CD-ROM accompanying the book presents morphological pictures from tomographic sections of the whole fetal body, combined with high quality dynamic echocardiographic images of normal fetuses and of some of the most common congenital heart defects.
This book is the second in the series of the most highly illustrated and practical guides on the essential foundations in adult transthoracic echocardiography. An essential reference for cardiac sonographers, medical students, medical residents and fellows, specialists, and the medical imaging specialties.WHAT'S NEW IN THE SECOND EDITION:Greatly expanded ... more than 100 pages added.Hundreds of new illustrations, images, and infographics.Emphasis on a three-dimensional understanding of cardiac anatomy.Includes the anatomical basis of the Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) views, alongside their comparative Transthoracic Echoardiography (TTE) views. FEATURES:A detailed expose of anatomical basis of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) echocardiographic views.Echocardiographic views exhibited from multiple perspectives, with the heart portrayed in the anatomical position as well as various patient examination positions.Cross-sectional anatomy of the echocardiographic scan planes are presented in detail.Side-by-side comparisons of the echocardiographic scan planes and regions of interest, from both the transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiographic perspectives.Over 1,000 insightful illustrations, infographics, images, and flow charts.
Practical Manual of Echocardiography in the Urgent Setting In the acute care setting, medicine happens at full speed and with little margin for error. As echocardiography plays an ever more important role in the diagnosis of patients who present with symptoms that suggest a cardiovascular emergency, clinicians must learn to collect, process and act on echocardiographic information as quickly and effectively as possible. Practical Manual of Echocardiography in the Urgent Setting covers the essentials of echocardiography in the acute setting, from ultrasound basics to descriptions of all pertinent echocardiographic views to clear, stepwise advice on basic calculations and normal/abnormal ranges. This compact new reference: Provides step-by-step guidance to acquiring the correct views and making the necessary calculations to accurately diagnose cardiac conditions commonly encountered in urgent settings. Presents information organized by complaint/initial presentation so that readers can work from this first knowledge of the patient through the steps required to pinpoint a diagnosis. Covers echo basics, from sound wave characteristics/properties to common device settings to basic ultrasound formulas Includes diagnostic algorithms fitted to address the differential diagnosis in the most commonlyencountered clinical scenarios. Designed and written by frontline clinicians with extensive experience treating patients, Practical Manual of Echocardiography in the Urgent Setting is the perfect pocket-sized guide for residents in cardiology, emergency medicine, and hospital medicine; trainees in echocardiography; medical students on cardiology or emergency medicine rotations; technicians, nurses, attending physicians—anyone who practices in the urgent setting and who needs reliable guidance on echocardiographic views, data and normal/abnormal ranges to aid rapid diagnosis and decision-making at the point of care. This atlas provides a comprehensive description of normal anatomy of the internal structures of the heart (natives valves, interatrial septum, left atrial appendage, left atrium etc..) as seen by this revolutionary ultrasound technique. Normal TEE cardiac structures are described and compared with the corresponding anatomical specimens focusing on the fundamental as well as the details of the cardiac structures, providing a detailed understanding of the anatomy that has not previously been possible with either real-time transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or reconstructed 3D TEE imaging technology. The atlas contains a large number of challenging cardiac pathology cases observed in clinical settings and based of the combined experience of five outstanding institutions in Europe and United States. Each case is accompanied by a brief presentation and discussion of the value of the imaging modality to effective diagnosis.
