Excerpt from The American Wonderland, the Yellowstone National Park In a letter recently received he writes It may be proper to say, in excuse of the roughness of some of the sketches, that they are almost untouched travel sketches, quite half, if not more, of the Park ones being taken on the logger-head of the Mexican saddle of my Cayuse, for I often feared to dismount lest the lariat should break, and I should be left to 'weary plod my homeward way' with the thermometer drop, drop, dropping down to freezing point. Excerpt from The Sand Dunes of Indiana: The Story of an American Wonderland Told by Camera and Pen "The Dune Country of Indiana represents the work of one hundred times one thousand years, by such artists as glaciers, water, wind, and sun, until you find there a park, perfect, beautiful; a fairy land; a land of dreams; a land of remoteness; a land of solitude; a land of long beaches; a land on whose frail shores strong waves beat at times with thunderous roar; a land so fair and fine no city park could be made equal it by the expenditure of countless millions." - Theodore Jessup. Excerpt from American Illustrated Lectures, 1885-1886: Wonderland of the World, Golden Northwest, Prehistoric Ruins and Pueblos of the Southwest, Heroes and Historic Places of the American Revolution At Franklin Hall, Thursday night, Dr. C. D. Hendrickson gave his illustrated lecture entitled Wonderland of the \vorld. Shortly after eight o'clock the lights in the hall were extinguished, and suddenly, as if by magic, the audience saw before them the peculiar scenery of the Yellowstone Valley. Under the able guidance of Dr. Hen drickson and by the aid of illuminated views the party climbed the rugged mountainsof the National Park, and descended into its beautiful valleys, pausing often to gaze upon its most striking features, its boiling springs, its fiery geysers, its gorgeous canyons and its foaming rivers. Excerpt from The Story of Lewis Carroll, Told for Young People by the Real Alice in Wonderland The gracious presence of Lewis Carroll is with us no longer. Never again will his hand hold mine, and I shall never hear his voice more in this world. Forever while I live that kindly influence will be gone from my life, and the Friend of little Children has left us. And yet in the full sorrow of it all I find some note of comfort. He was so good and sweet, so tender and kind, so certain that there was another and more beautiful life waiting for us, that I know, even as if I heard him telling it to me, that some time I shall meet him once more.
