Excerpt from The American Journal of Syphilography and Dermatology, 1870, Vol. 1: Devoted to the Consideration and Treatment of Veneral and Skin Diseases Auzias Turenne, 'the author of the method, whose experi ments with animals had given him the idea of the method, first proposed to use it in a prophylactic way against syphilis. The description, I may say, will appear in the third and much' enlarged edition of my work on diseases of the skin, just on the point of being published; but the account of the disease to which I refer will prove none the less interesting or original to the readers of the dermatological journal, because of that circumstance.
