Excerpt from American Bee Journal, Vol. 48: January, 1908 Dr. C. C. Miller, who has the well earned reputation of being the most cau tious writer on bee-matters, because he seldom advances a statement of which he is not absolutely positive, made the assertion, at the December meeting of the chicago-northwestern bee-keepers' Association, that when bees rear a young queen to replace or supersede the old mother, they rarely if ever destroy the latter, but allow her usually to die a natural death from old age. Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, Vol. 5 We might greatly enlarge this catalogue Of transgressions against science, if disposed to pursue the registration. But we should proba bly be thereby tempted to engage in discussions, Which might not indeed be of disservice to the cause, though they should lead us too far away from our present purpose. From these and similar incongruous notions and doctrines, we shall therefore only select that which from its nature seems to bear a close relationship to what has been called water dearth. We take occasion accordingly to speak= somewhat in detail, of the ej'ect of water on the combs and the lefe of the bees. Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1874, Vol. 10 We give below, an extract from the dis cussien that took place at the meeting of the Bee-keepers' Association, of Ober Hess, in July last, by which it will be seen that there are some in Germany as well as this country, who have no faith in the Italian race of Bees. Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, 1883, Vol. 19: Devoted Exclusively to Progressive Bee Culture I have been deeply interested of late in the articles on obtaining a correct statistical report of bees, honey and beeswax in the United States. I most heartily wish it may be obtained, though I very much doubt that it will be during 1883. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The American Bee Journal, Vol. 8: 1872-73 The extracted honey we sent to Philadelphia. Our bees did not do much 011 white clover, but when basswood came in bloom (july 15th), the bees kept us busy emptying out honey. \v e were fairly swimming in honey for about two weeks. We 'never saw bees gather honey faster than they did from basswood blossoms. Good swarms would fill their hives in two days when they had empty comb. Now we see the necessity of urging the bee keepers to cultivate the basswood. There is a great quantity of small basswood trees in the woods in this section which we can get to trans plant. Had it not been for basswood. We would not have got any profit from our bees. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
