Be careful what you ask for—you might get it. When she joins an expedition to explore an unknown continent, Juliette learns Adventure is dangerous—and scary—and Romance isn't always what you thought it was… On the unexplored continent of Kitzingen, Juliette, the Dactyl Saura, and a diverse group of explorers discover a long abandoned ancient city. When the expedition encounters refugees from a crashed LifeBoat, Juliette spots a Thieves Guild tattoo on one of them, which might mean they are raiders instead of refugees. But the dangers on the expedition are nothing compared to what awaits Juliette when she returns home. A Thieves Guild lieutenant has posted a reward in criminal circles for the capture of her younger siblings. When some of them are snatched at a festival, it will take all her courage and skill to save them. Can she do it?
UFOs. Aliens. Strange crop circles. Giant figures scratched in the desert surface along the coast of Peru. The amazing alignment of the pyramids. Strange lines of clouds in the sky. The paranormal is alive and well in the American cultural landscape. In UFOs, Chemtrails, and Aliens, Donald R. Prothero and Tim Callahan explore why such demonstrably false beliefs thrive despite decades of education and scientific debunking. Employing the ground rules of science and the standards of scientific evidence, Prothero and Callahan discuss a wide range of topics including the reliability of eyewitness testimony, psychological research into why people want to believe in aliens and UFOs, and the role conspiratorial thinking plays in UFO culture. They examine a variety of UFO sightings and describe the standards of evidence used to determine whether UFOs are actual alien spacecraft. Finally, they consider our views of aliens and the strong cultural signals that provide the shapes and behaviors of these beings. While their approach is firmly based in science, Prothero and Callahan also share their personal experiences of Area 51, Roswell, and other legendary sites, creating a narrative that is sure to engross both skeptics and believers.
This textbook presents a comprehensive overview of the environmental impacts of various types of outdoor recreation, and how these can be best managed. As a field of study, recreational ecology is both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, and the authors seek to develop a deeper understanding of both the role and function of the factors that influence visitor numbers and their impact. An accessible and comprehensive textbook, it features numerous types of outdoor recreational activities including hill walking, rock climbing, mountain marathons, skiing, scuba diving and more. Drawn from several global case studies, the authors estimate the current and future numbers involved in outdoor recreation, and how best these numbers can be managed. Effective visitor impact management actions arise from collaboration between recreation ecologists, social scientists, experienced recreation managers, recreation stakeholders and the recreationalists themselves: as such, this book will be multi-disciplinary in scope. This practical and engaging textbook will be invaluable to students and scholars of outdoor recreation and adventure tourism as well as practitioners and managers working in the field.

"A fast-paced Sci-Fi novel of adventure, suspense and romance on a post-apocalyptic earth. Trapped in a web of deceit and danger, two young women make dangerous alliances." The end of the world had come and gone. Those who remained after the apocalypse did whatever it took to keep themselves alive, and to preserve what civilization survived. Sometimes they broke laws and defied the will of the draconian government agencies who were supposed to keep anarchy at bay. Lacey Delaney, head of Laughing Mountain's Portal committee, flouted government edicts by helping Portal Runners smuggle desperately needed goods, services, and people to the Forbidden Colonies. Joyce Higgins has a stalker who is terrorizing her and her young sisters. When she and her sisters are accused of being clones by the Parallel Genetic Agency, they take refuge in Laughing Mountain. A Clone isn't considered a human being with rights under the law, but the property of whoever created it. Deputy Mark Connors says he can protect them, but can he? Malachi Sullivan, sub-commander of the free militia, is one of those who hold the line against the tyranny of an overbearing government aided and abetted by powerful industrial giants. Lacey and Malachi had been in love once, but a treacherous woman broke them apart. Now they must put the past behind them and work together to save their town and preserve the secret of the Portal to the Forbidden Colonies.
"The Revolution is Coming!" "An Outlawed Colony Thriller!" Newlyweds on a distant colony are thrust into a mutiny. Can Mathias and Ivette stop a colony uprising and still keep their newly adopted children safe? Mathias and Ivette were sent to earth to learn about Portal Technology. When they brought back the codes to reach the other outlawed colonies, their bosses were ecstatic. Now Arcadia could develop trade directly with other Outlawed Colonies instead of using the dangerous Portal on Earth and risking exposure to Earth's Draconian Governments and Industrial Giants. While their families were glad they had returned, a few members weren't elated to learn the pair had adopted seven cloned toddlers. Not all the colonists are happy with Arcadia's status quo either, and a rebellion is brewing. Mathias is horrified to discover his older brother is in league with the rebels. Does he betray his brother to save his family and his colony? The rebels are furious when Mathias and Ivette move into the house she inherited from her grandmother. They have other plans for Ivette's property, and having her, Mathias, and their new family move in isn't part of those plans. When their home is invaded by the rebel army, Mathias and Ivette must not only protect their new children but defeat the conspirator's as well.
Victor M. Villarreal was born in a rural village in northern Mexico. At an early age, he immigrated to the United States, settling in a small Texas town named Big Wells. From there his family joined the migrant stream, following seasonal crops across the United States. Their travels took them to Fort Wayne, Indiana, and to Fremont, California. Ultimately, he graduated from high school in Laredo, Texas. He was inducted into the U.S. Army and later graduated from Army Officer School as an Infantry Officer. He served at Ft. Bliss and later in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalry as a Platoon Leader and Infantry Company Commander. I No Hero tells the story of growing up in a new country and defending what that country stands for, despite the unpopularity of the stance that the United States took during the Vietnam War. Villarreals story explores the sacrifices that Americans make to insure our freedoms.
