The 1890 U.S. Federal Census was destroyed by fire in 1921, making the 1885 Florida State Census an invaluable resource for information lost in the 1921 fire. This volume provides abstracted mortality schedules from microfilm of the actual 1885 Florida State Census pages. Thirty-five of Florida's thirty-nine counties are covered here; Alachua, Clay, Columbia, and Nassau Counties are missing. Entries include: name, age, sex, race, birthplace of individual and both parents, month of death, cause of death (when known), and name of physician (when known). An every-name index adds to the value of this work.
